my 9 y/o daughter and I were talking about when Peter walked on water (Mt 14:28-33) She asked "why can't I walk on water?" I started to try to explain but conversation ended up going somewhere else. Should that topic come up again. How do I explain to her that with God, all things are possible without her thinking about trying to walk on water? |

I think at issue is the sovereignty of God. Christ called Peter to walk on water so long as his focus was upon Him. Nevertheless, Peter failed due to his fleshly concerns which drew his attention away from his Lord. Don't forget that Christ was there immediately to rescue Peter. I think one point we can draw from the passage is that our Lord calls and equips individuals in His service differently. He chooses which believer will serve in which way. Not everyone is called to walk on water. Our Lord opens doors of service. Believers cannot open service doors themselves in the flesh. Too often what passes for godly service is really the flesh dressed in ecclesiastical garb. My 2¢ worth anyway, συζυγος της εικονομαχίας |
