A mile-wide tornado churned through Oklahoma City's suburbs Monday afternoon, causing significant property damage for the second day in a row, as part of a severe weather outbreak that was expected to spread in other parts of the Plains and Midwest.

Just tryed to call Barb because I can never remember where exactly she is in OK (and I forgot I had her cell until now) --- and I get NOTHING. no busy signal , no ringing... just NOTHING for about 30 seconds and then the call drops. Never had that happen before - so I wonder if there are cell towers down over there.

Praying for everyone in harms way.

I used to think houses were safe in a storm. Lately I've noticed that homes are literally picked up and moved to another location a-la-Wizard-of-Oz style. Scoured off their foundations - nothing remaining. Storm pits and helmets are the way to go. Storm pits nearby. Wear a football/Motorcycle-type helmets while you are running for cover. Too many injuries come from flying debris hitting people in the head. Could make a difference.

Please pray for these people. The video I'm watching is heart stopping.

"The houses are destroyed. ... Completely leveled," a helicopter pilot for CNN affiliate KFOR said. A school was apparently among the structures leveled by the twister.

An elementary school in an Oklahoma City suburb took a direct hit from a mile-wide tornado, The Associated Press reported.

I'm watching it now, my brain just cannot comprehend what I'm seeing. It's like a bulldozer came through and knocked whole neighborhoods down. It's just heartbreaking, that's peoples homes and lives... :cry

I watched it move across the area and you could see the power line "fireballs" which means they lost power so no doubt phone lines are down as well. And most likely cell towers too, that and being overwhelmed with people calling and reporting in or checking on loved ones.

Hopefully she'll check in- praying also for everyone :pray2

The video is gut wrenching. They are still pulling children from one of the schools. Not sure about the other, some one said all accounted for but that was unconfirmed. Reminds me of Tuscaloosa and several towns here back in 2011 where almost 300 died

Btw editing to add since then there has been a push for more storm shelters, too bad it wasn't sooner. One commentator today said the Moore area did build more storm shelters after the 1999 hope that true

Oh no Shep just said that dozens of children trapped beneath rubble and it's gone from search and rescue to search and recover - so they expect the children to be dead

Wish Martha Stewart was My Sister!
The report I heard - & this was Shepard Smith reporting - 24 3rd graders were trapped when walls collapsed on them. They're all believed to be dead. I am sick over the whole thing - you send your children off to school in the mornings, and you just don't know if you'll get them back safely in the afternoons. It's horrible.

We're all fine in the Lawton-Ft. Sill/Comanche County area. No storms here at all, tho' the sky has been blue-black for the past few hours to the east. There is a large line of storms, tornadoes included, moving east - just south of the Red River in Texas. (The River divides Ok & Tx.)
