While the most sweeping provisions of the health care overhaul have not yet gone into effect, plenty of Americans will still be paying higher insurance premiums this year -- as insurance companies try to preemptively cover the cost of a tax increase included in President Obama's Affordable Care Act.

We have Blue Cross and their premiums are going up 12%. Scary to see what it will be further down the line for insurance.

We've been blessed to have BC/BS through my husband's work, but I have a feeling that his employer may drop it when Obamacare kicks in.

Our co-pay and deductibles will probably change (we have BC/BS too) and this year they've changed how they do things: now they want to get more invovled in our health. Doesn't sound like a bad thing but the every 3 months health check in phone calls kind of get annoying. They can last up to 30+ minutes. Also they now have a "health-check-in" online. They "rate" our health and then offer suggestions. Remember they just started this in fall of 2012 - And if we don't go online and do this, we will have to pay a higher co-pay the rest of the year.

Again, not a bad thing to have a kind of "coach" online on the one hand, but kind of worrisome on the other. What if they begin to decide to change our co-pays & deductibles due to health issues like diabetes or high blood pressure? Making us change our lifestyles to meet their goals or face higher deductibles (ie what if we make lifestyle changes and still can't get our numbers to change to their idea of what they should be etc?) That's always in the back of my mind. They are going to do what is most cost effective. But one size doesn't always fit all. (don't know if I'm making sense or not)

btw I get e-mails once a month to "Check-in" = to do the online health check-in. Will they punish me somehow eventually if I fail to do so?

They need to change the name to the Big Brother's Extremely Expensive Healthcare Act.
