Landmark cases, brought by four British Christians, including two workers forced out of their jobs after visibly wearing crosses, have been heard today at the European Court of Human Rights

David Cameron, the Prime Minister, has previously pledged to change the law to protect religious expression at work but official legal submissions on Tuesday to Strasbourg human rights judges made a clear “difference between the professional and private sphere”.

I hope the Christians appeal their decision. It's more than past timewe took aggresive action. NOt gun play but, using the law to the fullest extent.

Well, then those muslims need to leave their scarves and other religious trappings at home as well. It can't be (certainly should not be) okay for members of one religion to show their affiliation but not another. And you know how hard the muslims are fighting to wear the hijab and even the burkha (not sure I spelled those correctly).

The difference is certain items of clothing or adornment, Hijab, Kara, Yamaka etc. are required/mandated to be worn by some faiths, a cross is not.

Also the lady with the cross was not told to remove it but to wear it under her clothing. I suggest reading the industrial tribunals report on the case it is....illuminating and must be noted that the tribunal threw out her case against her employer on every count.

They even found that it was she that was being unreasonable and obstructuve after the employer had made every conceivable attempt to meet her demands. Made serious and demonstrably false accusations against others etc. etc.

IMHO if they really are concerned about being "fair" they need to allow them all or allow none.

btw burka's are inhumane, demeaning and dangerous for women

I agree with Scribble. We should never be contentious. However there are many employers who give huge concessions to some groups including Muslims and it also should not be tolerated. Still, we live in a country that is turning away from being a nation of people who while not necessarily true Christians, at least respected the teachings of the Bible. It will be important in the coming days to be clear about what things are bottom line in our faith and what things we have no right to expect or demand in a nation that has become Christian intolerant.

COL 2:13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

HEB 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

We have the Cross of Christ firmly in our hearts. Let us take up our Crosses daily and Follow Him.

Quote:

MT 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it."

IMHO this is about more than the the cross. It's also about gay marriage. Abortion. Forcing Christians to accept both gay marriage and abortion by using the dreaded "hate" word to silence Christians. It's part of the Democratic platform now - while any mention of God has been stricken. Amazing that this happened in 4 years.

btw I said it back in 2002 that gay "rights" would be an issue that would usher in Christian persecution. It may very well open the door. Growing unbelief and intolerance in our nation(s) will carry it the rest of the way. Pray for our nations and share share share the gospel! I believe time is short

I agree time is short and certainly the Gay push for rights has been a catalyst for Christian persecutioin.

Praying for the Lord to give us the ability to stand firm in the end days, amen.

Praying for salvation of the Lost. May all of God's Word be fulfilled soon, amen.

The persecution against Christians will continue to increase. I do not see any of that around where I live but it is disturbing to read about it taking place in the US.
