I am a bit concerned about the appropriateness of some of the adds that have been appearing on the board the last few days.

One that I noticed just today reads: "Free Bible Prophecy Book - You Can Understand Bible Prophecy. Order Your Own Free Copy Today! ", but the link leads to the web site of the highly legalistic "The United Church of God."

From their statement of faith as presented on the site:

The Sabbath Day
We believe that the seventh day of the week is the Sabbath of the Lord our God. On this day we are commanded to rest from our labors and worship God, following the teachings and example of Jesus, the apostles and the New Testament Church

The Festivals of God
We believe in the commanded observance of the seven annual Holy Days given to ancient Israel by God and kept by Jesus Christ, the apostles and the New Testament Church. These Holy Days reveal God's plan of salvation

God's Food Laws
We believe that those meats that are designated "unclean" by God in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 are not to be eaten.

I have also been seeing occasional adds for SDA and Mormon publications the last week or so.

I would hate to have visitors to the board think that we are promoting the beliefs of such groups.

I don't see the adds at home but I have seen the prophacy one when I log on elsewhere I didn't click on it because I didn't know where it was going.

The Zeta boards site I'm sure just tailers ads based on what the message board is about. That is why in an earler "ad" thread I wondered if the PF team could have a say and acctually approve or disapprove specific ads.

Im fairly sure that isnt isnt under our control. Though the ads do seem to be settling down into themes that at least seem to be somewhat appropriate.

Well... I just saw an add at the bottom of the thread on the healthcare ruling that went something like this: watch the truth - see video now!" with a picture of Obama and it was sponcered by a orginization that sounded anti-obama.

That would sent mixed messages to someone as we arn't supposed to be discusing politics on this site.

If we can't control the ads (and I did a search of "control of ads on zetaboards - and apperently they are GOOGLE ads and thus Zeta boards itself doesn't have control) - then may I suggest putting somewhere where everyone who visits this board can see it (not tucked in an annoncement somewher e- but maybe under our logo?) "We are not responcible for, nor do we endorce any adds on this site" something like that.

I have ad block and can't see these ads. I'd recommend that to everyone btw- it's nice to not have to see them.

Keep in mind - the ads do keep sites like this free.

So is this ad block something you get from the net or what?

I have Firefox and that's one of the ad-ons. I don't know if IE users can use it or have something similar- I'd hate to give you wrong information. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

I'll second that suggestion.

Today I saw an ad for a free psychic reading.

I suppose that the ad software's "reasoning" goes something like:

Phychic = telling the future= prophecy.

Ok another note. Earler I was looking for bookcases - just a google search.

Guess what the very first add that showed up was when I came back here? That's right - bookcases.

So the ads may also depend on what you have been looking at on the web. :/

I got political ads in the healthcare thread, and in the thread about bug genitics changing to match the genticaly altered food - there was an add about genticaly altered food.
