Trouble Changing Avatar

I'm trying to change my avatar to a fire rainbow one, but it won't let me. I'm not getting any error messages when I try so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Here's what's happening.

Alright first I tried removing the old avatar and using the new one. That didn't work, it gave me the avatar changed message but the old avatar was still there. Yes, I double checked that I hadn't mislabled the old avatar as the new one.

Next I tried shrinking the new avatar down to the dimensions of the old avatar, that didn't work either. The avatar changed message was up but the old avatar was what was showing.

My last try, and I don't know what else to try after this, is I removed the old avatar and tried uploading the new avatar with the same dimensions of the old one. You guessed it it didn't work either.

The avatar I'm trying to use has a dimension of 63 x 41 and is only 9KB.

The old avatar's dimensions is 64 x 59 and it's 2KB.

What's weird is it will let me switch my avatar to a smiley that I have saved to my computer. If I have the smiley as my avatar and try to upload the new one it still won't let me use the new one, but it doesn't keep the smiley it switches to the old avatar. :frazzled :gaah

:help

Is the dimensions to large for the KB? If that's the case why isn't it giving me an error message, and why does it automatically switch to the old avatar not even keeping the smiley if that's the one I have up when I try to change avatars?

The length of time stuff will stay in your cache depends on your browser settings.

You can force things to cleanup more often or keep them forever, or anywhere inbetween.

For IE, go to Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History/Settings. Look for 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' for the available options.

I still saw your kitties on my home computer until I did a refresh...then your dragon came up here also (and I was not on this page when I initally came to the board). It is very odd, but from what I can tell, it is a cache problem even for other uses. Apparently, caches are set to automatically expire or reset after a while and that will clear the problem. Otherwise, you can do it manually and clear it up.

Ok - The point is that Joe smith out there isn't going to know when someone has changed their avi and it shouldn't be up to THEM to clear their cache to see if someone else's avi. That should be clearing from the BOARDS side. I mean - I have NEVER heard of this happening.

Sorry if I'm being snotty here - or being the squeeky wheel ... I still say that has to come from the board and that's either a problem with set up - or with Zeta boards itself. What do they have to say about it?

Notmally Joe Smith doesnt care excactly when your Avatar changes. He may not notice it for a while... :)

What you see in your browser is a function of that browser. I use IE and noticed no problems, for instance. What bowser wwere you using? You mentioned couple, I think...

Seriously... Do you want a MB to control your browser? I know I dont...

Point is... If your browser is acting wierd, then clear the cache. Its exactly what Id tell someone who called in a ticket at the Help Desk at work, and it seemed to work here as well...

I'm using Firefox.

The only reason I even knew what was going on was because I was trying to figure out why Cricket couldn't change her avatar, then found out I couldn't change mine either. The whole thing sorta snowballed from there :lol

For me it'd only be a problem if I was trying out new avatars, and even then it'd be more of a temporary annoyance rather then a problem.

I can also see it being a problem for new members trying out new avatars. Can a notice be placed somewhere explaining that the cache may need to be cleared in order for the avatar to change?

They say exactly what Hoot is saying and I said above. Hoot knew, I think, but I looked into from the support side for myself since I am not as tech savy as he is :):
