Police in Aurora, Colo., searching for suspected bank robbers stopped every car at an intersection, handcuffed all the adults and searched the cars, one of which they believed was carrying the suspect.

Police said they had received what they called a “reliable” tip that the culprit in an armed robbery at a Wells Fargo bank committed earlier was stopped at the red light.

"May we search your car?" "No"
"Officer, am I being detained? No? Have a good evening. I will be leaving now."

hmmmm... When I was a kid we (mom, brother and I) were pulled over at night by a police officer who shined a flood light into the car. He talked to my mom. Turned out the car matched the description of a car involved in a robbery. He established who had the car when and let us go. Didn't even take my mom outside of the car.

What they did there seems like overkill.

Hmmm, sounds like a violation of the 4th Amendment, which deal with a person's rights regarding search & seizure:

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Considering the whole goal of law enforcement is to keep the citizenry safe and to protect our civil liberties, how could they trample all over the U.S. constitution that way?
