Not looking for advice just a translation. What is the significance of the following?

"My Hemoglobin fell to 5.6 and with a HCT of 20.9." Adult woman, FWIW.

See, just because my friends and I both speak English it doesn't mean we're speaking the same language. :lol

I have no idea. :shrug

Question for you tho', Scott - Have you read the book, Reversing Diabetes?

Sweetie nor I are diabetic but it runs in both families. We thought we'd adjust our eating habits a little bit more. That book sounded interesting but I hate to pay almost $20 for it online without knowing anything about it. Thanks!

She is really anemic.

"The normal range of hemoglobin (also haemoglobin) is vary in male, female and children.

For female it is 12 to 16gm/dl (gram per deciliter).

Thanks for the info. I asked my DW and she didn't know anything. When I told her anemia (later) she said, "Of course, it runs in my family."

Evidently they are doing that. She has been in the hospital for 2 days.

I had a hemoglobin count once of 4.6 when I had previa placenta during a pregnancy I am usually around 13. I was dangerously low and almost died after delivery due to the blood loss I actually went into a coma for 3 days.. This woman has a low hemoglobin and her HTC should be between 36 and 44 so she is pretty low there too. We should be praying for this person.

The lady we're talking about is my niece. She's a nurse, well trained and very intelligent. All of her friends are either nurses or doctors. Believe me, she is in good hands and is already home from the hospital. There's not much more I can say without violating her privacy too much.

Hemoglobin is the Iron in your blood. I do not know what HCT stands for.

HCT stands for Hematocrit. It is the percentage of red blood cells in your blood by volume.

Definitely low blood counts. Usually, they'll check for sources of bleeding, usually starting with the GI tract, lovely tests like colonoscopy, Upper GI endoscopy, as well as some others. Counts like this are really low, and usually just eating iron rich foods like spinach, liver, etc isn't going to do it, as counts this low often are related to active bleeding somewhere.

FWIW, HCT= hematocrit HGB=hemoglobin
