there is nothing wrong with the advice as long as it stays that- advice. I applaud that. But for some over zealous people who are not content with just advising- they want to ban/make laws etc- I get the impression what they'd REALLY like is to somehow figure out a way to get "in-home-minders" in our lives overseeing what we eat and drink :lol Gov't Dishes Out Advice on Preparing Healthy Meals: Always Use Bowls or Plates By Penny Starr June 1, 2012

"We're from the government and we're here to help." Now the bowl and plate advice I'm unlikely to follow. I'm single and I see no reason to heat something, like a can of chili or soup, in a pot then pour it into a bowl. That's just one extra dish I have to clean. Besides aren't they always telling us to conserve water? If I have to wash 2 dishes then I'm using more water, by not using the extra dish I'm doing my part to save the environment :humble |

Read the comments under the article! :hysterical (nothing bipartisan in them!) This is crazy though - how dumb does the FLOTUS believe we citizens are? She has to encourage us to use bowls & plates? How about encouraging people to cook from scratch, with non-GMO fresh vegetables & fruits and free-range meats? Now thattttt might be worth reading about. :shrug |

I remember a neighbor of mine about 20 years ago was lamenting she had gained a lot of weight. As she described what she ate every day, she commented "and the only other thing I eat is a little container of ice cream" Come to find out she had been eating a pint of Hagen Dazs! Almost every day! I mean, what is that, 1000 calories and 40 grams of fat? Would she have been more aware if it had been scooped into a bowl? (this criticism by me, who can eat an entire bag of Chester Cheese Puffcorn during one movie. And lick the orange cheese dust off the bag when I'm through. Yeah baby!) |

Just visited a gal who is easily 20 yrs my junior this afternoon. She has gained a tremendous amount of weight in a very short time (I'm thinking over the past 90-120 days). She said she's recently discovered she has heart disease! :freaked She was so surprised - how did that happen? She said it's not like they eat out at fast food restaurants, hardly ever. (Okay, what does she eat at home? :shrug ) She's convinced she won't have any problems though because "they" have put her on "all these meds!" She thinks that's great! I was like :eek and :twitch I asked her if the doctor has put her on a strict eating plan? Oh, they wanted her to go to all these food classes, but she didn't think she needed that. I'm still reeling from the visit. I didn't say more because I'd caught her at dinner time & her kids were waving & yelling "hi!" to me from the dinner table so I took care of the business I'd gone by there to do and I left. So while that family doesn't need to be taught to eat dinner together as a family, and to use bowls and plates, they do need to be taught to eat healthy, if they are concerned about their health. And even then, I said "if" -- I believe it should be their choice. |
