A Washington, D.C., man was detained for first-degree murder when a background check for a new job revealed an outstanding warrant in one of the oldest cold case murders in Montgomery County.
Bobby Coley, 63, of southeast Washington, was applying for work as a temp Tuesday, when a background check uncovered an outstanding warrant in his name. When Coley went to the sheriff’s office to clear his name and land the job, he had no idea the warrant was for murder.
The prosecutor said he has to assess the viability of the 37-year-old case.
Coley is being held without bond.

Man who interviewed for job, got detained for 1975 murder is released

A man taken into custody when he attempted to clear an arrest warrant from his record at the Montgomery County, Md. sheriff’s office was released Thursday night due to insufficient evidence in a 1975 murder case.

State Attorney John McCarthy announced a murder charge against Bobby Coley, 63, of southeast Washington, will not be prosecuted at this time, but the Montgomery County Police Department Cold Case Squad will continue to investigate.

You would think if it was for MURDER that they would track the person down - not just issue a warrent in case they happened to come accross the person. (Which is the case in "petty" warrents)
