So won't people just buy more drinks and/or go back for more refills, thereby quite possibly consuming even more soda than they would now?

No Bloomberg, it's what you want you to do, not what the public wants you to do. That is unless you actually put it to a vote which I highly doubt. I buy 20 oz drinks, but that's because I rarely finish them in one sitting and I like the option to cap the drink and put it in the fridge for the next day. So yep making me buy a smaller size will probably cause me to actually consume more of the drink then I normally would in one sitting. Thankfully I don't live in New York. |

I can't believe he thinks he can legislate a person to his thinking of what constitutes good health habits. This will change nothing nor help obese people it just makes him feel good to feel he is controlling New York. He is a control freak like his partner in crime Obama's wife Michelle. This is silly and a waste of time for business's who are already in enough trouble with the economy the way it is. I have only been to NYC once and have no desire to ever see it again and hopefully here in the mid west we have more sane politicians. |

I guess he doesn't have anything more important to do than to legislate what size soda people buy. And these are the kinds of people running the country. Sad state of affairs, indeed. |

Yep Government as usual focusing on the "really important stuff" (sarc) I was reading this morning that NY is losing wealthy people because of high taxes (and therefore the revenue is leaving too) It's just common sense- the state wil have to recoup that money some how or cut services since they won't do that - I would imagine higher taxes on something down the road for everyone. |

Mr Bloomberg we do understand and we know what we should and should not eat or drink. The problem is we don't want you or anyone else not just telling us what we can eat but even making it a law what we can eat or drink |

That makes me want to go out and buy the biggest, most sugar laden, soda that I can find, along with a pint of ice cream, a box of Little Debbie Snack Cakes, and a couple of candy bars, and have the lot of it for dinner. For dessert I'd have a small salad coated with the most fat laden dressing I can find. If I had Bloomberg's email address and a video recorder I'd film me enjoying the lot of it, do this :neener :tongue at the end and send the video to him. Bloomberg, you are not the father of everyone who resides in New York, you are not the health police, and you are not King of New York. If someone wants to find their way into a body bag by drinking large sodas and eating junk food that is their business not your's. By the way you sir are a hypocrite, you cannot preach a healthy diet one day and then go celebrate donuts the next. |

It's unAmerican, this country has an underlying theme of independence and having the freedom to make your own decisions. I see this as a type of treading where gov't has no right to intrude. Sugar is real bad for us, true. I think we all know this, don't we? It's a personal decision. Give us some credit, we aren't stupid, and it is our God given right per the constitution that personal decisions are to be left to us. Gov't overstepping it's bounds. Another agency to track, penalize, enforce, track some more. Enough. |

It's the Nanny State marching forward! Charrrgggggeeee!!!! A big problem with this is the fact that if NY even moderately succeeds with the soda ban, other locales will follow. Of course, this makes me think of a guy we knew a few years back who owned a c-store/gas station. He put these half-price candy bars right in front of the check out counter. He called them "Fat Girl Candy Bars" because, as he put it, since they were half-price, a lot of gals bought 2. :lol |
