Note that within the article are links to news stories and I've read about most of them at some point. I was thinking yesterday after reading another really disturbing story on par with the cannabalism story that there are days when I probably should not read the news. People are really becoming scary. And I'm starting to think about these things when I get out in public. I am becoming wary anytime I go out anywhere. btw warning on many of these news stories for content

I would never deny that things are "worse" today then they were 30 years ago. Even so, I think still that a lot of it is more our awareness of just how much evil goes on because there are so many media outlets now, and everyone is walking around with a video camera in their pocket. There was a murder I read about that is still more heart-rending than any of the 20 things on that link, and this murder happened over 20 years ago ... so, as the Ecclesiastes author wrote, "there is nothing new under the sun." What I have found is the less I watch news or listen to talk radio, the more enjoyable I find my life. I cannot control what a band of listless teenagers are going to do in Chicago, but I CAN continue raising my daughters and enjoying my fellow believers' company. The wind and waves roar around us ... but focus NOT on them, but on Jesus ... and you can still walk on the water!! |

And yet despite all we see in the news scoffers abound. Those who deny we are in end times. Even mock the idea. Regardless of how much bad news we read. Many still don't believe we're living in end times. Amazingly. We need to reach as many as we can for Christ and warn the world that time is short. We are admonished repeatedly to be watchful and Jesus told us in several parables to not be caught sleeping - eating, drinking, giving and getting in marriage etc 1Th 5:4-11; Mar 13:33-37; Mat 25:13; 1Pe 4:7; Rev 3:3; Phil. 3:20; Mat 24:37-39, 42; Luk 21:34-36 That's what I'm doing. Am I panicked or freaking out? Absolutely not. But I feel an urgency to warn people and to spread the gospel don't you? I think time is short. It greives me to see these things happening as I'm sure it must grieve God. I feel like crying over the worlds condition. So many lost and wandering in darkenss. |

I understand ... but I try to keep a separation between the end of America and the end of all the world. America might well be a 2nd or 3rd world country in my lifetime, but that doesn't mean it will be the end times, anymore than when Jerusalem was sacked, or Rome fell, or France ... I am quite certain every generation has believed it is seeing the end times ... until He returns, no one can say for sure. Yes, we should always be warning people to be saved before the waters begin to rise ... however, I am also a father and I feel an obligation to raise two girls with as good of a childhood as it pleases God to grant me the power to do so. I can't do that if I'm constantly depressed about the wickedness that is happening in other places I know nothing of. As you yourself alluded in your OP ... you would be happier the less you knew about what really goes on in the world. If I told you about the murder I mentioned above, you might very well end up curled up under your bed... and to what end? Does that edify? It's one thing to be aware, another to be obsessed (not saying you are obsessed, just gettin' that out there). Edited by ole shosty, May 30, 2012, 12:40 pm.

US for awhile there set a standard. Shosty, if America isn't the last great experiment, what country is? World is growing darker and I do believe Christ's return is near. Not that you throw up your hands and hide in a closet. It's more a wake up call to use time wisely. Raise your daughters, pray for your enemies, pray for the persecuted church. The only thing that's going to turn this boat around is revival, could happen, you never know. |

No doubt the world is changing and doing so at an alarming rate. It discuss me to read the news these days, so If I miss watching it no big deal. I will still live my life and try to live it in a way pleasing to God so that those around me notice something different and want to know what it is. |

People hear what they want to hear. See what they want to see. I have been on some boards where people cannot discuss end times without being mocked or made fun of. It's great that we have a place to come to where we can discuss end times without fear of being made fun of or scoffed at. It's pretty discouraging to be shut down. I am unable to post at one place because I mentioned the Lords return and the world being the way He described it would be. I don't know if they're so wrapped up in this world they don't want to hear any of that or they think it's getting better and just don't it will get that bad - I don't know what it is. :headscratch |

I do sincerely believe things are getting worse in this world but I still have friends, family, neighbors, my doctors and my banker who I do trust. There are still trustworthy people around. I have seen a lot change over my 67 yrs on earth and I do believe this could well be end times but none of us know that for sure. We should live like the Lord is coming soon whether we think it is soon or 100 yrs away. This article was way to cynical. If we are to live in this world until our Lord comes or we die then we need to look for the good and there is also plenty of good if you look for it. I will read the news to be aware of what is going on and also so I will know how to avoid getting into these situations if I can but I won't let it take the joy i have in living away from me. |

I agree. I have no illusions that things are going to get better. I believe Scripture when it says things will get increasingly worse. Society will break down. It's not just the US either- it's everywhere. I expect more unrest and people to become more evil and violent. The evil that men do to themseleves and each other gets worse and worse. I think like Lots time- finding righteous and godly men and women will become more difficult. 2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. The church is embracing all types of sin and doctrine that scripture doesn't back up. "The time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." (2 Timothy 4:3-4) However because of Christ I am comforted that he said these things would happen and we do not endure them alone. Without Christ I would have no hope. I sure don't look for hope or encouragement in people, events or governments. People are selfish, sinful and will dissapoint. 1Th 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 1Th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 1Th 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1Th 5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 1Th 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 1Th 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 1Th 5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 1Th 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. |
