http://www.forbes.com/sites/reuvencohen/2012/05/26/department-of-homeland-security-forced-to-release-list-of-keywords-used-to-monitor-social-networking-sites/2/ According to Forbes.com, the DHS was forced by the freedom of information act to release lists of keywords they track people using on social networking sites. You can read the lists at the link. Spooky. |

That's crazy. You can easily write a paragraph using a multitude of the benign words on the list. I wonder how long it would take for the FBI to show up at your door. |

Cloud Watcher, you use the word "cloud" every time you post. That's one of the words. Good grief! :lol Y'know, if someone wrote posts about those words, so that they were the focus of their topic, and they were more or less obsessed with that sort of thing, then I can see tracking them . . . but not just because some of those words show up. |

Sigh, I wonder how many salaries our tax dollars are paying for to search innocuous stuff? |

My local radio (rock) station was making fun of this this morning. Saying the words and then going - oh look a black helicopter. (It was funny when they were doing it... I can't reproduce it right). My thought - it would take way too much manpower to go through everything flagged, so there is most likely a count, or the program matches relative phrases. |

It is so tempting to start using those words everyday and then just waiting for the knock on the door. What are they going to do arrest me for using words? |

I was on another message board when I read them and had to laugh as everyone else did there since many of these words are used everyday in messages. Servant you are right just how much taxpayer money is wasted checking on this. I certainly hope they use more than this or our security is in the wrong hands. |

I find it interesting that certain words are not on the list. For exampe: Islam, Muslim, koran, etc. |

I think it's pretty clear the point of these words is to create such a broad spectrum as to give them access to ANY site they want to investigate. As soon as someone tries to claim government overtepping, they can simply say, "hey, your site was flagged because of the word ... 'crash'" ... I mean, look at the whole list, and tell me the odds that ANY site in the internets does NOT contain one of these words!! |
