Some person of questionable intelligence and common sense left their two LARGE dogs locked in a very SMALL cage in the back of his truck across the street from our condo. The dogs have been crying and whining and crying all night long and all morning long. Not once has anyone been out to check on the dogs. The noise is unbearable and I imagine that the dogs aren't super happy with the arrangement either. I just got off the phone with the police dispacher (non emergency number) and she'll send someone out. Now, the teenager is mad at me for calling because he thinks that the dogs belong to his friend's cousin. And? Isn't he mad at the friend's cousin for cruelty to his animals? Of course not! :doh |

You could be a little less then diplomatic and suggest that the teen go spend the night and all morning in his closet no getting out to use the bathroom, or to get water or food, just so he knows how those dogs feel Then get back to you on why you shouldn't have reported the situation to the police |

:lol Great minds think alike. I asked him how he would have liked to spend the night in the little cage in the back of the truck? He allowed that he probably wouldn't like it very much. The police responded fairly quickly (I'm thinking there aren't quite as many domestic violence calls on a Sunday morning) and tracked down the owner. At least I *think* he's the owner. Now, the man and the police have all wandered off somewhere and the dogs are still in the cage whining and crying. :doh Knowing how this county works, I imagine that they all went off to have a beer together (it's now 9am) and discuss proper dog care. :gaah |

I think the closet is actually a lot more comfortable than the truck in hot weather. Animals and young children die every year by being left in hot cars whether it was the cab of the truck or the bed of the truck it doesn't matter those poor dogs needed help and they can't help themselves they need human intervention. He needs a lesson in compassion many teens would have helped an animal and be upset with an animal treated this way it is not a teen thing not to have compassion it is an individual human thing and needs working on. |

raml, he is normally a very compassionate boy. He was just concerned about his friend's cousin getting in trouble. Also, as it is still quite early and as we live at altitude, it's not at all "hot" yet. NOT trying to excuse the abuse to these animals, obviously, as I am the one that called the police. However, they were in the bed of the truck and it's probably only 65 degrees at the moment. Even though they were in the truck bed, the gate was up and the cage only stuck about 1 inch over the top of the bed. There was also an oversized cooler in the truck bed taking up quite a bit of room, very little air circulation available around the cage. So, had it been hot the dogs would have been in REAL trouble. |

I'm with you 100% on calling the police. And I love Rainbo's suggestion that your teen try out confinement in his closet for awhile to get a taste of how the dogs felt! :pound Sure hope those dogs got moved out of those pens before too much more time passed. Animal control officers here are a little overly ambitious. They'd have had that guy spread-eagled in his front yard (or parking area) at gun point about 5 min. after they pulled up. (No, I'm not a fan of the local canine cops, so I rag on 'em, but they are sometimes necessary.) |

I think I have the smileys figured out. Let's see if my guess is right. :yell. :yell Yep I'm right. If we add punctuation to the smileys then they don't work. I had it happen in a few of my post, and with ones I knew I still knew the code to. On the old board the smileys worked with the punctuation. |

Poor dogs, you did the right thing Servant. They say a person treats animals the way they would other humans. I think that is the truth. |

It takes teens to get into their twenties before their brains catch up. Me and Amy got into an argument about the pronounciation of 'tussled' versus 'tousled'. She claims they are both pronounced the same, I disagree, tuss rhymes with russ and tous rhymes with mouse. She said, I'm always right and you know that Mom. Selective memory on that kiddo. All this when I complimented her 'tousled' loose curls. Good on you for helping the doggies. :thumb |

Servant you called the police which was the right thing to do. The police however should hve at the very least give him a citation for this violation. These boys should have been given the sentence of cleaning out and feeding dogs and cats at the shelter to know how it is being an animal who couldn't help themselves. |

I assume that they were given a citation, but don't know for sure. The owner was a grown man though, not a boy. Helping out at the shelter is a GREAT idea! Once I get my work situation settled, maybe I can look into volunteer programs there. Maybe my teen could help out a day a week walking dogs or feeding animals or cleaning cages or something. Thanks for the idea! :thumb |
