Memorial day and having a hard time finding military movies

So I thought I'd browse the guide for what's on History channel. You know a channel that's suppose to be about history- a good time to showcase our military. So what is History channel running? A pawn stars marathon. Really?

Other channels fare no better- TNT, TBS, FX nothing there either.

Discovery and Learning channels - reality shows non-stop the next 2 days.

Very heartbreaking that none of the channels are choosing to honor our military on Memorial day :(:

Trying to think of good military movies. I like Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart, that occasionally plays on Turner Classics.

I'm sure there are many more, I just can't think of them!!

I don't get Turner Classics, wish I did, I'd have to pay more for that and many of the retro channels. Really bummed about that. I wish we could purchase by al-la carte. Just give me a list, let me choose, and charge me for that.

I was going to mention AMC, but Hootmon beat me to it.

TNT will be showing We Were Soldiers in another hour. It's a great movie and is based on a true story.

Yes I have tivoed a lot of war movies for today from amc and turner classics will watch them later today. It is strange most cable and regular stations show reruns of popular series instead of honoring our military dead by playing some war movies. It is like they forget the real meaning behind the holidays most of the time.

I must be the oddball. I won't watch military movies, they're too violent for me (and in between the violent bits I get bored). I'm awful glad that there are other programming choices available today.

I used to like watching the shows about the various battles and how they were won (usually through incredible sacrifice and valor). I remember watching one show about what they called the Taffy boats during WWII. That really impressed me. Going up against much bigger, heavier armed ships but they kept at it. Just incredible courage.

The old movies I like to watch are of course many with John Wayne and movies like Tora Tora Tora and Midway.

Just noticed Spike is running Band of Brothers. My grandfather worked on the tractors and "Work equipment" at camp Toccoa - that's what he did for a living was work on tractors.

I was born and raised till I was 14 a few miles from there. A majority of my family are still there.

also of course is the NCIS marathon but I think they always do that on Mondays

I have Tora Tora Tora in the que to record on comcast, I watched Sergent York last night. 1941 film about WWI with Gary Cooper, based on a true story. Hollywood was much simpler then, and the main character kept thanking God which was great to hear!!

Also found out that comcast took TCM from basic and has it at a higher tier now, that is not fair. A lot of seniors like to watch old classics, why on earth should they have to pay extra? Doesn't seem right to me.

I wish I knew. Maybe because they're requested so they charge more - I hate to be so cynical but to me it seems everything comes down to money

I am one senior that wouldn't pay extra for turner classic alone but I love hallmark so I do pay extra to get that station and of course get many other stations. I tivoed tora tora tora and watched it yesterday and today I have a few more on turner classic that I am recording. War is violent but I don't mind watching war movies while I rarely watch violent movies otherwise. I just checked and turner classic is still not an extra on our cable at least not yet.

metv on 7.2 here showed episodes of 12 O'Clock High and Combat! in primetime on memorial day

http://metvnetwork.com/programs.php

most cable channels have become a joke.

History channel needs to stop airing reality shows. same with VH1 and CMT and TLC and E!

I just checked and we don't have metv yet in this area from what I can see I would love to have this station maybe they could replace Oprah's station own for that one on cable since I hate her station and I hear it is going bankrupt.
