Hootmon, I love your avatar! My son took me to the local zoo on Mothers Day, and I was so excited to see they have meerkats now. They are so cute! They have both indoor and outdoor enclosures. The babies with a few adults were indoors. The ones outside spent part of the time digging a den, and the other part on alert. The was an eagle flying overhead, and the meerkats stood like statues, staring up at it. I think the zoo should put chicken wire over the top of the enclosure.

Meerkats are pretty durned cute.

I want a couple of pet prairie dogs, sigh... They like to hibernate so they probably wouldn't enjoy my climate.

I really wanted to put one of my pet ferrets but I need to go over and reduce a picture for me to be able to do that and I just haven't done that yet. I choose the meerkat because it reminds me a bit of my ferrets although I think ferrets are much cuter. When I have a few minutes I will have to get my avatar changed. I now have 28 ferrets I have rescued my last 10 I just end up keeping them since I have the means to take care of them so I am really into them in fact I am a crazy ferret lady although now any new ones are rescues who need my help. Right now I am at my capacity since it is not cheap to feed and house and take care of vet bills which ferrets tend to need more than most pets since they are known for cancers and heart problems. Since i am retired it does give me something to do where I feel needed so many people who buy ferrets do it on an impulse and then when they lose interest turn them loose outside where they will die if not rescued since they have been domesticated for 2000 yrs and they have no idea how to go about feeding themselves plus dogs and other wild animals will kill them. My last rescue was skin and bone and loaded with fleas and could barely walk when found and turned over to me she now is filled out and running around like a kit and I got rid of the fleas her first night with me it is rewarding to see this total change with a little TLC

That is so cool Raml. I hope you post some pics!! I love playing with ferrets in the pet store, they are pretty cute. Pet stores should give literature on ferret sales telling them they can't fend for themselves in the wild. :sad
