Posted Image Hi, everybody! Jump in, the water's fine . . . What should we call this thread, here at our new digs? I'm not sure the ND (Not Deceived) part carries over well . . . so many folks don't know the story & the guy who said the all of us at the original RR board were deceived hasn't been around in years. Chat Central was all I could think of, besides "Chat Stew" and I'm sure that phrase is copyrighted. :lol But, we can always get a mod to change the title for us, I'll bet! :nod Posted Image |

I look for the 25 lb bags! We live in a rural farm area so big bags like that are not hard to find. John |

I live in rural E. Texas so I could get the 25 lb bags but I hate having to fool with them. 5lbs of seed usually last me a month so it isn't to bad. |

Alright. I refilled the feeder. I brought in the bag just so I could type what it is. I't Pennington (the bird feed people) Premium Select blend. special mix for a wide variety of musical, colorfl birds. Bought at walmart for 10 bucks. It's 10 lbs and I've used about half of it already. It does come in a bigger bag. Lets see ... in gredients: White proso millets, Sunflower seed, Safflower Seed, Wheat, Milo, Calcium carbonate Everything was gone, I didn't really see any of these left. Maybe I should check the feed store and see if they have a similar mix? Of course I could fill it entirely with sunflowers (they sell thouse) but I don't know what type of birds I'd get. right now it looks like mostly sparrows - but the picture of the chickadee on the front looks like what I'm calling a sparrow so.. I may be getting thouse as well ("sparrow" to me = small brown bird, males with a "cap") It's supposed to attract cardinals and goldfinchs too. :noidea What? no shrug smilie anymore? :shrug Hi, Sharon. Yep - type a colon : and the word 'shrug' and you'll get the smilie we used type :noidea for. We usually feed the birds in the winter and go through bags of bird feed. Those little feathered friends eat all the time. The dogs love the suet cakes so I have to keep them up high enough they can't reach them. :lol We usually get cardinals and blue jays when we feed more sunflower seeds than other seeds. I like to hang a finch feeder on the fence out front. It's a thin mesh bag filled with tiny little seeds. The finches are so cute. They're not usually here year-round though, mainly in late winter. I did get into a better mood as the day went along, thankfully. Think I'll go to bed after the news - I didn't sleep too soundly last night. Edited by barb43, May 30, 2012, 9:03 pm.

I feed them in the winter. I also have some mulberry trees I don't harvest so the birds have a good time with the berries. I have mockingbirds, doves (a couple types), blue jays, cardinals, finches, sparrows, and grackles. I can go through a lot of birdseed. I just throw it on the ground. The best deal I have found, a mix pretty much like the one you're using, Sharon, is a 40 pound generic bag for about $15 at the pet food store. Occasionally I mix a little cracked corn in there, too. I tend to get squirrels, after the sunflower seeds. I'm not a fan of squirrels after I had some in my attic. I could hear them chewing at night. |

We put ears of dried corn in the squirrel feeder. If we feed them too (we call 'em 'tree rats') they are more likely to leave the bird feeders alone. They're pretty comical, climbing down the chain & hanging sometimes upside down to get to the bird food in the bigger feeder. :lol Heather, I can relate to squirrels in the attic! We had them in the attic before we had the garage siding replaced. They chewed through the doorbell wires, and ruined one of the light fixtures. So happy to get them out of there. :nod |

I was so mad I got a slingshot. I was going to have some BBQ squirrel. Ron and I just had a really dumb argument. Over wedding proposals, of all things. I need to remember Ron has a head injury and will always think of himself first. He will have tantrums when he doesn't get his way, and I knew this the minute I saw him after the accident. My wedding proposal: after the accident, I told Ron we had to get married. He balked. I said "I am leaving you, if we don't get married" and he very reluctantly agreed. That is not a wedding proposal. :mad Edited by Heather, May 30, 2012, 10:26 pm.

My only problem with feeding the birds is that the bears like what the birds eat! Everynight we gotta take down the feeder cause we dont want Yogi hanging around! |

That show is a real guilty pleasure at my house. It makes us all squirm. Its amazing what people do to themselves, and just how efficient those ERs can be. |

Hi, bopeep! Welcome! I don't think bird feed expires, so long as it doesn't get wet & mildew-y it should be okay. If they don't find it tasty, they'll probably not eat it. Different seed is supposed to attract different types of birds - like, the finches really go for thistle seeds. I think grackles will eat anything. Good morning, Heather, John, and Hoot! Haven't seen Bizarre ER, but I did work in a University hospital's billing dept one year and some of the 'complaints' on the forms kept me in stitches. |

'Morning *yawn* I am ready to smite my German Shepherd. The older she gets, the more she "protects". Last night, I woke up as she "protected" us from, oh, I don't know, a squirrel or a mouse or the wind....something like that. :frusty Three times I had to tell her to shut up. Today I take dss to the one of his docs. It'll be the first follow up after the accident. I am expecting a good report. I took him clothes shopping yesterday, and he did really well. So grateful that God spared him. I am supposed to be in spin class in 45 minutes. Let's see if I can talk myself into going, cuz I'd rather just sit here a spell... :zombie |

:lol Ah, moo - she just loves you so much! Hope your dss's visit to the doc goes well. Got a major email problem going on here. The gal at tech support thought I was crazy, but really, this is what's happening. Part of my emails are going to Inbox; a small handful are going to Mobile Mail::Inbox, where they set if I don't think to look there. And, those only stay around for 24 hrs & then disappear. She checked her mobile mail and inbox & said they seemed to be synched, she didn't see how they could not be. Well, okay, but I need a solution to my problem because this is business. She's requesting a synch between the two and I should shut down & try again after lunch. We'll see. :frusty |

Been playing around in profile. Do you know you can set a title? I was looking on how to show my name in my profile and I can't find it. (sometimes in order to spell someone's name right I will click on thier userid to see if they display it in the profile, and I noticed that no one has their real name in thier profile here so I was trying to figure out where you set that up) |

Yeh, I'd like to be able to set a title. Mine used to read "Forever in Blue Jeans". :lol Today it would read, "The Girl w/Kaleidoscope Eyes". (Just showing my age a bit with either title - but that's okay. :heh) I've looked for people's names too and would like that again. For one thing, I don't know who everybody is who hasn't reintroduced themselves w/their new names on this board. Think I'll head home & cook some dinner . . . It's just that time of day. |
