Gleanings: Reloaded
Rule number one: There will be no setting of dates in here.
No hinting, speculating, alluding, nadda. (/stern face)
Now I put on my happy face! :D: (smile) :B:
A refresher...
(Either that or there's a glitch in the Matrix)
Welcome.. :):
This is just really kindv'e a place I made to store & gather (online) gleanings I've picked up in the past, and perhaps also to currently retrieve any other gleanings from fellow members.
Feel free to drop anything that you feel would be applicable.
Until then, I'll just be talking to myself, and hopefully you'll learn a thing or two in the meantime about God's perfect Word.
;):
Purpose of thread:
Submission and gathering of prophetic gleanings & redemptive truths, etc..
To kickstart, I should make special mention of the fact that I personally, (as if some of you didn't already know!), have had a special interest regarding the area of typology and the usage of shadows & parallels contained in the Word of God - furthering in my mind, and others, the fact that God's Word is perfect, and divine. Written with pattern, and a purpose.
Gleanings aren't soley restricted to this area, but a great deal of what I post will probably be connected to such things.
That area is prophetic in nature, IMO - and prophecy was my first love in regards to studies of the Bible.
For those ignorant, firstly..
the definition of a "type" is:
Quote:
A figure, representation, or symbol of something to come, such as an event in the Old Testament that foreshadows another in the New Testament.
Same with "shadow":
1. An imperfect imitation or copy.
2. A mirrored image or reflection.
3. A faint indication; a foreshadowing.
We see Paul make mention of this thought in Hebrews 8:5:
Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
And also..
Hebrews 10:1:
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
The tricky part is coming to a right conclusion & interpretation of God's Word - rightly dividing it.. and by no means taking away the fact that the word of God should first be interpreted literally unless otherwise called for in the passage..
I do not mean to butcher God's Word, and I hope no one here does either. But I realize, as I hope you come to too, that God's Word is rich, and can have double or triple + layers of application if properly handled..
I do not expect to have all truth, or my conclusions to go unchallenged.. If I'm shown to be in error, feel free to point it out or question it..
I think this is a good read for what I just discussed..
http://www.yashanet.com/studies/matstudy/mat1.htm:):
A few simple examples are as follows..
Redemptive Truths...
The Ark of Noah
ONE ARK YET THREE STORIES.
ONE GOD YET THREE PERSONS.
* The Foundation - symbolic of the Father
* The Door - symbolic of the Son (John 10:9)
* The Window - symbolic of the Holy Spirit
A few diddies on the number of Eight.
A number that bears the significance of New Beginnings in scripture.
* Their are 8 biblical covenants God established with man, the eighth being the New covenant (Hebrews 8:8-12)
* On the 8th day after birth circumcision was to be performed in the covenant begun between God & Abraham.. (Genesis 17:12)
* Also, the "8th Day" since Creation is Eternity coming into place..
(Right after the "7th Day" of the Millennial Reign..)
When the "New Heavens" and the "New Earth" come into being.. (Revelation 21:1)
* The world was saved and started afresh by the space of 8 persons aboard Noah's Ark. (2 Peter 2:5)
* Jesus Christ, the Root and Offspring of David, resurrected from the dead on the 8th day! (Matthew 28:1-6)
* King David was the 8th in his line of family. (1st Samuel 17:12-14)
* Oxygen the eighth element in the periodic table having 8 protons 8 neutrons and 8 electrons.
That little fact about Oxygen, our very natural life source, happens to pair up well with the fact that it's also 888 - the number of Jesus in Greek gematria (our spiritual life source).
A few texts I thought were appropiate ~
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Going with the flow of numbers for now..
I also have a little writ down on 4 concerning Jesus..
Genesis 1:14-15 - And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Genesis 1:16-18 - And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:19 - And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
*
* From Adam to Abraham were 2,000 years.
* From Abraham to Christ were 2,000 years.
Therefore we have a total of 4 Days (4,000 years) arriving at the birth of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Himself declared to us He is the Light of the World.
(John 8:12, 9:5, 12:46)
The picture is clear. The 4th day of creation was a shadow of Christ coming into our world after 4 "Days".
The Sun in all it's glory is a mere shadow of the SON.
Combined with the fact Jesus is a descendant of David, who is from the tribe of Judah - the 4th Tribe born of Israel.
Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah..
I picked up the following thought from ssimon2000 here..
Quote:
With Jesus coming first as a Lamb, sacrificed for us, the veil of the Temple was torn in two, revealing the Mercy Seat, and God's plan of redemption.
With Jesus coming again as the Lion, the veil of heaven is torn in two, revealing the Judgment seat in heaven (Revelation 6:14), and God's plan of judgment.
Awesome, awesome picture!
:):
To quickly add..
the other figure created in the same day; the Moon..
The moon reflects the glory of the Sun and gives light to this dark world.
We are that city set on the hill which cannot be hid, the light of the world ourselves. (Matthew 5:14)
Very simply put, the moon is the Church born in the same day as Christ was, from His very side.
God even has truths set in place throughout nature declaring His wisdom.
The Composite List...... (Taken from Genesis chapter 5)
Hebrew - English
Adam - Man
Seth - Appointed
Enosh - Mortal
Kenan - Sorrow
Mahalalel - The Blessed God
Jared - Shall Come Down
Enoch - Teaching
Methuselah - His Death Shall Bring
Lamech - The Despairing
Noah - Rest (or comfort)
That's rather remarkable:
Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest. Here's the Gospel hidden within a Genealogy in Genesis!

To start off again..
It has been said by some that "the OT is the NT concealed, and the NT is the OT revealed.''
Combined with this which Jesus said.. --
Luke 24:25-26 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luke 24:44-45 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
No doubt, Jesus explained the clear-cut prophecies of himself to his disciples..
But!
I also tend to think he taught them the employment of types & shadows in the Torah (as the vast majority of clear-cut Messianic Prophecies are in the Prophets and Psalms..), and elsewhere, to bring home the point that the Messiah had to first die, and then be resurrected (as the context of Luke Chapter 24 is about)..
and that then played a key role in opening 'their understanding that they might understand the scriptures'.
Again...
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
John 5:46-47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
The following shows Jesus had a grasp on what He was saying...
John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Here we have The Son of God just comparing Himself to a serpent on a pole in the middle of the wilderness during Moses' day!
That sounds absurd at first, no?
This was a foreshadowing (and Jesus knew it).. -- of God Himself being raised up on the cross, so that whosoever looked to Him would have life, just as the Israelites regained their natural life in the wilderness..
The passage in the OT .. concealed, and revealed in the NT ..
Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
What a strange instruction from God.. the serpent of all things is widely symbolic of evils and witchcraft.. but here we have God using it for the purpose of saving Israel!...
Symbolic, however, of the sin Jesus would take upon Himself, for us..
* 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
* Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
* 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
And we look to, and believe in, the Son of God..
and we have Eternal Life..
(John 3:16)
It is written in Psalms 40:7 & Hebrews 10:7:
Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me

From Adam --to-- Noah - crossing the first 10 generations of the righteous lineage of mankind..
(Genesis chapter 5)
we have to me what almost seems like a riddle.. well, at least, some great truths spread about that are quite telling..
Not only do their names mean something, and tell the Gospel themselves (as displayed earlier!) - but the defining moments in each of the lives of the scripturally noteworthy men paint a picture, and tell us the great truth of what the Messiah's ministry is going to be all about!
In the genealogy of Jesus in Luke chapter 3, verse 38..
it reads "... which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God."
Adam is considered to be the 'son of God'!
He was the first man created, and whom all humanity descends from after all.
The name Adam itself means in Hebrew "man" (and "red earth").
Now then - Abel was the son of Adam (Genesis 4:2).
Abel was the "son of Man"!
Here we have Christ foreshadowed in both these two!
Jesus Christ is the only one who is both the "son of man" and the "son of God".
Now to a quick synopsis of the scripturally noteworthy men in Genesis chapter 5 and their defining moments..
Adam brought sin onto himself and the world through a tree. (Genesis 3:6-7, 5:1-2)
Abel** the shepherd was killed by his brother Cain, and his blood shed on the ground - for offering an acceptable sacrifice before the LORD. (Genesis 4:2-10, 4:25, 5:3)
Enoch was translated ("raptured"; taken) from this world into the next. (Genesis 5:23-24, Hebrews 11:5)
Noah along with his family of seven were brought into an ark of safety while judgment was poured out upon the corrupt world. (Genesis 5:28-29, chapter 7)
Noah & family thereafter exit the chambers of the ark and begin the new world by offering up sacrifices at a constructed altar; which was a sweet smell before the LORD. (Genesis 8:15-22)
--- To compare --- ...
Jesus Christ the Messiah, Son of God *and* Son of Man, took upon Himself the sin of the world on a tree (the cross) - His Blood (The Good Shepherd; John 10:11, 14) being shed - but in like manner of Enoch was taken away to be with God the Father - conquering death.
Then we come to Noah and his kin of 7.
Representative of Christ taking with Himself His family (The Body of Christ in general) of seven (the 7 Churches of Revelation - their are overcomers in each one: Revelation 2:1-3:22), and entering the chambers of the ark of protection as the judgment of the world is unleashed (aka: The Rapture - Isaiah 26:20-21, Revelation 4:1)
Then the picture fades to Noah coming out of the chambers of the ark WITH His family - a picture of the Second Coming and the subsequent beginning of the millennial reign - as a new world era is commenced.
The fact that Noah builds an altar of sacrifice immediately after returning to the earth speaks to us of the Millennial Temple Christ will institute in the Millennium era (Ezekiel chapters 40-48)
In conclusion.. so here we have one broad picture painted.. of the events in these men's lives that foreshadow the greater picture of what the Messiah has done and will do.
** I realize Abel is not in the Genesis 5 lineage for he was slain.. But it is said of him "Abel is not mentioned because Seth signifies Abel in resurrection. Seth, whose name means "appointed,".

The following are bits I've saved from various places on the web in a document file I have.
Unfortunately I never copied links to a lot of what I saved, so just bear in mind the following 'quoted' material isn't authored by me - but I saved it because I thought it was good.. and I'm now I'm sharing.. enjoy..
Quote:
The Judgment of Jericho (Joshua 2-6)
The sentence of judgment was pronounced upon Jericho and the people of Canaan (Exodus 23:27). Before the judgment fell on that city, God provided a way of shelter under the scarlet line for all in it who had faith (Joshua 2). This typically fortells the story of the judgment that is about to fall upon this guilty and doomed world (Acts 17:31; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). God in mercy has also provided a shelter for this world under the blood of of Christ.
In Chapter 6, the judgment fell on Jericho as God promised. But before it happened, Joshua first brought the long wilderness journey of the children of Israel to an end (Joshua 3-5) by bringing them into the Promised Land of Canaan. Before judgment falls upon this guilty and doomed world the Lord Jesus Christ, like Joshua, is also going to bring the Church's long wilderness journey in this world to an end by descending with a shout and calling them into heavenly Canaan. The strokes of divine judgment that are going to fall upon this world in the Tribulation wil not take place until the people of God (the Church) have been first ushered into their heavenly portion above.
There is another picture in the story of Jericho's fall that also shows out this same truth. There was a shout (Joshua 6:16) that took place before the walls fell down flat.* This reminds us of the shout we are waiting for (1 Thessalonians 4:15-18) , when the Lord will come for us and call us out of this world. Again, notice the shout took place before the city was judged, and the shout at the Rapture will also take place before judgment comes upon this guilty world in the Tribulation.
* It is remarkable that the walls of Jericho fell at harvest-time. (Joshua 3:15). The judgment of this world is also called a harvest. Compare: Matthew 13:39-42; Revelation 14:15-20; Joel 3:9.

More 'quoted' material...
Quote:
Joseph and Asenath (Genesis 37-50)
Joseph (or Zaphnath-paaneah, meaning "Saviour of the world") is another well-known type of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He was rejected by his brethren (Genesis 37) who are typical of the Jewish nation, and carried abroad among the Gentiles (Genesis 39-41). After he was carried among the Gentiles to Egypt, there was a period of blessing in that land followed by a time of famine.
During the time of famine Joseph's brethren were restored to him. The time of blessing answers to this present dispensation of grace and the time of famine answers to the period of Tribulation that will come upon this world. It is instructive to see that Joseph, during the time of plenty while he was estranged from his brethren, recieved a Gentile bride, Asenath (Genesis 41:45). Asenath is a type of the Church. She was brought into his house to share his royal place upon the throne in Egypt before the seven years of famine began. So also the Church will be brought home to glory with Christ before the time of Tribulation comes upon this world.
During the time of famine, Joseph worked to restore his brethren to himself (Genesis 42-45). So Christ will deal with Israel in the Tribulation to restore them to Himself.
Quote:
Moses and Zipporah (Exodus 1-12)
Moses is another type of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was God's appointed deliverer (Exodus 3:10; Acts 7:35) for the children of Israel who were at that time under the tyrannical bondage of Pharaoh in Egypt. Moses yearned for his people and longed that they might be delivered. When he came to them, he slew one of their Egyptian oppressors, showing his desire was to vanquish their enemy, and lead them out of the bondage. But his efforts were all misunderstood by his brethren who said to him, "Who made thee a ruler and judge over us?" (Acts 7:35; Exodus 2:14).
They rejected him. So Christ also when He came to deliver His people from the power of sin and Satan, they rejected Him too (John 1:11). They said, "We will not have this Man to reign over us." (Luke 19:14).
Being rejected, Moses fled from his people into the land of Midian (Exodus 2:11-4:19). In the time of this estrangement from his brethren, he received a Gentile bride named Zipporah (Exodus 2:21). She is another type of the Church which is being brought in today from the Gentile world by the gospel (Ephesians 5:25-32; Acts 15:14; Romans 11:11).
--- Injecting my own thought here a little bit --- ...
Exodus 4:24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.
Exodus 4:25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
Exodus 4:26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
Take note of the fact that..
* The LORD sought to kill Moses.
* The Gentile Bride of Moses (Zipporah) called him a "bloody husband" - "surely.. art thou to me"
This speaks plainly to me of The LORD God the Father, seeking to kill Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:10)..
and then, by His Blood shed for His bride on Calvary..
surely He is a bloody husband.. (Matthew 26:28, Colossians 1:14, Hebrews 13:20, Revelation 1:5, Revelation 19:13)
--- Returning you to the normal program --- ...
Quote:
Zipporah bore Moses a son, and they named him Gershom which means "a stranger here." This speaks of the character the Church is to have in this world as strangers and pilgrims (1 Peter 2:11). Moses received his Gentile wife before the judgment (10 plagues) began to fall uon Egypt. So Christ will have His bride, the Church with Himself in glory before the Tribulation judgments begin to fall upon this world.
After many years God sent Moses back to the children of Israel (Exodus 3:10;4:19) who were still struggling under the yoke of their Gentile oppressors (a type of the times of the Gentiles, Luke 21:24).
Moses obeyed the command of God and returned to Egypt and began to show himself to his brethren, the children of Israel, who had once rejected him. This is a foreshadow of the Lord resuming His dealings with the nation of Israel after He has taken His bride, the Church to Heaven. When Moses returned to his brethren in Egypt, God began to pour out judgment upon that land in the way of ten plagues (Exodus 7-12:36). God miraculously preserved Israel in the midst of all the judgments which became signs of confirmation to them that God was working on their behalf (Psalms 78:43; 105:27; Exodus 7:3; 8:22-23).
This answers to the Tribulation period when God will pour out His wrath upon this guilty world (Egypt) but at the same time preserve alive the godly remnant of Jews. But where was Zipporah all the while the judgments were falling on Egypt? She was not in the land! Moses had sent her back to the land of Midian before the judgments came forth from God (Exodus 18:1-2). She is not once mentioned during the plagues. Zipporah did not appear on the scene until after all the judgments had fallen on Egypt and the children of Israel were delivered. The Church will also see no part of it. The Church will not appear again until the Tribulation is over and the Lord comes to display His bride to a wondering world in the Millennium (2 Thessalonians 1:10).
Quote:
Leah and Rachel (Genesis 28-30)
Jacob sent forth by his Father, is a picture of God, the Father sending His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ into this world. "The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world." (1 John 4:14). Jacob went forth from his Father's house for two reasons:
Firstly, on account of sin (Genesis 27; Hebrews 9:26), and also to secure a bride for himself (Genesis 28:15; Ephesians 5:25). When Jacob came into the far country he saw Rachel, who is a type of Israel, in the field and desired to have her for himself.
Jacob agreed to purchase her through his own personal toil, which is a prefigure of the work the Lord Jesus Christ would accomplish on the cross in order that He might have a bride.
When it came time for Jacob to receive Rachel, Laban treacherously deceived him so that he did not get her, but Leah instead. God allowed this to happen to Jacob that we might have this marvelous foreshadow of His ways with Israel and the Church. Leah is a type of the Church. After Jacob was given Leah he later received Rachel. This tells the story of God's dispensational ways; when Israel would not be brought in, God has brought in the Church instead in order that his Son might have a bride (Acts 15:14; Romans 11). After the Church will be called away to glory (Rapture) the Lord will receive Israel (Isaiah 54:5-6; 62:4-5; Hosea 2:16).
So Jacob had two brides. Leah (typical of the Church) was received first even though he made his advances toward Rachel (typical of Israel) first.
While Leah's womb was open and bearing children, Rachel's womb was barren (Genesis 29:31). This answers to the present day; while the Church has been bearing fruit to God, Israel has been barren (Isaiah 54:1; Matthew 21:19-21). The point for us to see in this is that Leah had all seven* of her children before Rachel passed into travail (Genesis 30:22; 35:16) to bring forth her children.
Rachel's travail is a picture of Israel's future trial in the Tribulation (Isaiah 66:7-8; Jeremiah 30:6-7; Micah 4:9-10; 5:3; 1 Thessalonians 5:3). Leah was finished bearing before Rachel's travail began! So the Church also will finish its course and time of bearing fruit on earth (every last soul will be saved to form the Church) before Israel will pass into their travail in the Tribulation.
