Gleanings: Reloaded

Rule number one: There will be no setting of dates in here.
No hinting, speculating, alluding, nadda. (/stern face)

Now I put on my happy face! :D: (smile) :B:

A refresher...
(Either that or there's a glitch in the Matrix)

Welcome.. :):

This is just really kindv'e a place I made to store & gather (online) gleanings I've picked up in the past, and perhaps also to currently retrieve any other gleanings from fellow members.

Feel free to drop anything that you feel would be applicable.

Until then, I'll just be talking to myself, and hopefully you'll learn a thing or two in the meantime about God's perfect Word.

;):

Purpose of thread:

Submission and gathering of prophetic gleanings & redemptive truths, etc..

To kickstart, I should make special mention of the fact that I personally, (as if some of you didn't already know!), have had a special interest regarding the area of typology and the usage of shadows & parallels contained in the Word of God - furthering in my mind, and others, the fact that God's Word is perfect, and divine. Written with pattern, and a purpose.

Gleanings aren't soley restricted to this area, but a great deal of what I post will probably be connected to such things.

That area is prophetic in nature, IMO - and prophecy was my first love in regards to studies of the Bible.

For those ignorant, firstly..
the definition of a "type" is:

Quote:
A figure, representation, or symbol of something to come, such as an event in the Old Testament that foreshadows another in the New Testament.
Same with "shadow":

1. An imperfect imitation or copy.
2. A mirrored image or reflection.
3. A faint indication; a foreshadowing.

We see Paul make mention of this thought in Hebrews 8:5:

Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

And also..

Hebrews 10:1:
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

The tricky part is coming to a right conclusion & interpretation of God's Word - rightly dividing it.. and by no means taking away the fact that the word of God should first be interpreted literally unless otherwise called for in the passage..

I do not mean to butcher God's Word, and I hope no one here does either. But I realize, as I hope you come to too, that God's Word is rich, and can have double or triple + layers of application if properly handled..

I do not expect to have all truth, or my conclusions to go unchallenged.. If I'm shown to be in error, feel free to point it out or question it..

I think this is a good read for what I just discussed..

:):

A few simple examples are as follows..

Redemptive Truths...

The Ark of Noah

ONE ARK YET THREE STORIES.
ONE GOD YET THREE PERSONS.

* The Foundation - symbolic of the Father
* The Door - symbolic of the Son (John 10:9)
* The Window - symbolic of the Holy Spirit

A few diddies on the number of Eight.
A number that bears the significance of New Beginnings in scripture.

* Their are 8 biblical covenants God established with man, the eighth being the New covenant (Hebrews 8:8-12)
* On the 8th day after birth circumcision was to be performed in the covenant begun between God & Abraham.. (Genesis 17:12)
* Also, the "8th Day" since Creation is Eternity coming into place..
(Right after the "7th Day" of the Millennial Reign..)
When the "New Heavens" and the "New Earth" come into being.. (Revelation 21:1)
* The world was saved and started afresh by the space of 8 persons aboard Noah's Ark. (2 Peter 2:5)
* Jesus Christ, the Root and Offspring of David, resurrected from the dead on the 8th day! (Matthew 28:1-6)
* King David was the 8th in his line of family. (1st Samuel 17:12-14)
* Oxygen the eighth element in the periodic table having 8 protons 8 neutrons and 8 electrons.

That little fact about Oxygen, our very natural life source, happens to pair up well with the fact that it's also 888 - the number of Jesus in Greek gematria (our spiritual life source).

A few texts I thought were appropiate ~

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Going with the flow of numbers for now..
I also have a little writ down on 4 concerning Jesus..

Genesis 1:14-15 - And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

Genesis 1:16-18 - And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:19 - And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

*
* From Adam to Abraham were 2,000 years.
* From Abraham to Christ were 2,000 years.

Therefore we have a total of 4 Days (4,000 years) arriving at the birth of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Himself declared to us He is the Light of the World.
(John 8:12, 9:5, 12:46)

The picture is clear. The 4th day of creation was a shadow of Christ coming into our world after 4 "Days".
The Sun in all it's glory is a mere shadow of the SON.

Combined with the fact Jesus is a descendant of David, who is from the tribe of Judah - the 4th Tribe born of Israel.
Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah..

I picked up the following thought from ssimon2000 here..

Quote:
With Jesus coming first as a Lamb, sacrificed for us, the veil of the Temple was torn in two, revealing the Mercy Seat, and God's plan of redemption.

With Jesus coming again as the Lion, the veil of heaven is torn in two, revealing the Judgment seat in heaven (Revelation 6:14), and God's plan of judgment.
Awesome, awesome picture!

:):

To quickly add..
the other figure created in the same day; the Moon..

The moon reflects the glory of the Sun and gives light to this dark world.
We are that city set on the hill which cannot be hid, the light of the world ourselves. (Matthew 5:14)

Very simply put, the moon is the Church born in the same day as Christ was, from His very side.
God even has truths set in place throughout nature declaring His wisdom.

The Composite List...... (Taken from Genesis chapter 5)

Hebrew - English

Adam - Man

Seth - Appointed

Enosh - Mortal

Kenan - Sorrow

Mahalalel - The Blessed God

Jared - Shall Come Down

Enoch - Teaching

Methuselah - His Death Shall Bring

Lamech - The Despairing

Noah - Rest (or comfort)

That's rather remarkable:

Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest. Here's the Gospel hidden within a Genealogy in Genesis!

To start off again..
It has been said by some that "the OT is the NT concealed, and the NT is the OT revealed.''

Combined with this which Jesus said.. --

Luke 24:25-26 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Luke 24:44-45 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

No doubt, Jesus explained the clear-cut prophecies of himself to his disciples..

But!

I also tend to think he taught them the employment of types & shadows in the Torah (as the vast majority of clear-cut Messianic Prophecies are in the Prophets and Psalms..), and elsewhere, to bring home the point that the Messiah had to first die, and then be resurrected (as the context of Luke Chapter 24 is about)..

and that then played a key role in opening 'their understanding that they might understand the scriptures'.

Again...

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

John 5:46-47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

The following shows Jesus had a grasp on what He was saying...

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Here we have The Son of God just comparing Himself to a serpent on a pole in the middle of the wilderness during Moses' day!

That sounds absurd at first, no?
This was a foreshadowing (and Jesus knew it).. -- of God Himself being raised up on the cross, so that whosoever looked to Him would have life, just as the Israelites regained their natural life in the wilderness..

The passage in the OT .. concealed, and revealed in the NT ..

Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

What a strange instruction from God.. the serpent of all things is widely symbolic of evils and witchcraft.. but here we have God using it for the purpose of saving Israel!...

Symbolic, however, of the sin Jesus would take upon Himself, for us..

* 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
* Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
* 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

And we look to, and believe in, the Son of God..
and we have Eternal Life..

(John 3:16)

It is written in Psalms 40:7 & Hebrews 10:7:

Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me

Joshua's Gen August 28th, 2003 05:04 PM
From Adam --to-- Noah - crossing the first 10 generations of the righteous lineage of mankind..

(Genesis chapter 5)

we have to me what almost seems like a riddle.. well, at least, some great truths spread about that are quite telling..

Not only do their names mean something, and tell the Gospel themselves (as displayed earlier!) - but the defining moments in each of the lives of the scripturally noteworthy men paint a picture, and tell us the great truth of what the Messiah's ministry is going to be all about!

In the genealogy of Jesus in Luke chapter 3, verse 38..

it reads "... which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God."

Adam is considered to be the 'son of God'!
He was the first man created, and whom all humanity descends from after all.

The name Adam itself means in Hebrew "man" (and "red earth").

Now then - Abel was the son of Adam (Genesis 4:2).
Abel was the "son of Man"!

Here we have Christ foreshadowed in both these two!
Jesus Christ is the only one who is both the "son of man" and the "son of God".

Now to a quick synopsis of the scripturally noteworthy men in Genesis chapter 5 and their defining moments..

Adam brought sin onto himself and the world through a tree. (Genesis 3:6-7, 5:1-2)

Abel** the shepherd was killed by his brother Cain, and his blood shed on the ground - for offering an acceptable sacrifice before the LORD. (Genesis 4:2-10, 4:25, 5:3)

Enoch was translated ("raptured"; taken) from this world into the next. (Genesis 5:23-24, Hebrews 11:5)

Noah along with his family of seven were brought into an ark of safety while judgment was poured out upon the corrupt world. (Genesis 5:28-29, chapter 7)

Noah & family thereafter exit the chambers of the ark and begin the new world by offering up sacrifices at a constructed altar; which was a sweet smell before the LORD. (Genesis 8:15-22)

--- To compare --- ...

Jesus Christ the Messiah, Son of God *and* Son of Man, took upon Himself the sin of the world on a tree (the cross) - His Blood (The Good Shepherd; John 10:11, 14) being shed - but in like manner of Enoch was taken away to be with God the Father - conquering death.

Then we come to Noah and his kin of 7.

Representative of Christ taking with Himself His family (The Body of Christ in general) of seven (the 7 Churches of Revelation - their are overcomers in each one: Revelation 2:1-3:22), and entering the chambers of the ark of protection as the judgment of the world is unleashed (aka: The Rapture - Isaiah 26:20-21, Revelation 4:1)

Then the picture fades to Noah coming out of the chambers of the ark WITH His family - a picture of the Second Coming and the subsequent beginning of the millennial reign - as a new world era is commenced.

The fact that Noah builds an altar of sacrifice immediately after returning to the earth speaks to us of the Millennial Temple Christ will institute in the Millennium era (Ezekiel chapters 40-48)

In conclusion.. so here we have one broad picture painted.. of the events in these men's lives that foreshadow the greater picture of what the Messiah has done and will do.

** I realize Abel is not in the Genesis 5 lineage for he was slain.. But it is said of him "Abel is not mentioned because Seth signifies Abel in resurrection. Seth, whose name means "appointed,".

The following are bits I've saved from various places on the web in a document file I have.

Unfortunately I never copied links to a lot of what I saved, so just bear in mind the following 'quoted' material isn't authored by me - but I saved it because I thought it was good.. and I'm now I'm sharing.. enjoy..

Quote:
The Judgment of Jericho (Joshua 2-6)

The sentence of judgment was pronounced upon Jericho and the people of Canaan (Exodus 23:27). Before the judgment fell on that city, God provided a way of shelter under the scarlet line for all in it who had faith (Joshua 2). This typically fortells the story of the judgment that is about to fall upon this guilty and doomed world (Acts 17:31; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). God in mercy has also provided a shelter for this world under the blood of of Christ.

In Chapter 6, the judgment fell on Jericho as God promised. But before it happened, Joshua first brought the long wilderness journey of the children of Israel to an end (Joshua 3-5) by bringing them into the Promised Land of Canaan. Before judgment falls upon this guilty and doomed world the Lord Jesus Christ, like Joshua, is also going to bring the Church's long wilderness journey in this world to an end by descending with a shout and calling them into heavenly Canaan. The strokes of divine judgment that are going to fall upon this world in the Tribulation wil not take place until the people of God (the Church) have been first ushered into their heavenly portion above.

There is another picture in the story of Jericho's fall that also shows out this same truth. There was a shout (Joshua 6:16) that took place before the walls fell down flat.* This reminds us of the shout we are waiting for (1 Thessalonians 4:15-18) , when the Lord will come for us and call us out of this world. Again, notice the shout took place before the city was judged, and the shout at the Rapture will also take place before judgment comes upon this guilty world in the Tribulation.

* It is remarkable that the walls of Jericho fell at harvest-time. (Joshua 3:15). The judgment of this world is also called a harvest. Compare: Matthew 13:39-42; Revelation 14:15-20; Joel 3:9.

More 'quoted' material...

Quote:
Joseph and Asenath (Genesis 37-50)

Joseph (or Zaphnath-paaneah, meaning "Saviour of the world") is another well-known type of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He was rejected by his brethren (Genesis 37) who are typical of the Jewish nation, and carried abroad among the Gentiles (Genesis 39-41). After he was carried among the Gentiles to Egypt, there was a period of blessing in that land followed by a time of famine.

During the time of famine Joseph's brethren were restored to him. The time of blessing answers to this present dispensation of grace and the time of famine answers to the period of Tribulation that will come upon this world. It is instructive to see that Joseph, during the time of plenty while he was estranged from his brethren, recieved a Gentile bride, Asenath (Genesis 41:45). Asenath is a type of the Church. She was brought into his house to share his royal place upon the throne in Egypt before the seven years of famine began. So also the Church will be brought home to glory with Christ before the time of Tribulation comes upon this world.

During the time of famine, Joseph worked to restore his brethren to himself (Genesis 42-45). So Christ will deal with Israel in the Tribulation to restore them to Himself.

Quote:
Moses and Zipporah (Exodus 1-12)

Moses is another type of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was God's appointed deliverer (Exodus 3:10; Acts 7:35) for the children of Israel who were at that time under the tyrannical bondage of Pharaoh in Egypt. Moses yearned for his people and longed that they might be delivered. When he came to them, he slew one of their Egyptian oppressors, showing his desire was to vanquish their enemy, and lead them out of the bondage. But his efforts were all misunderstood by his brethren who said to him, "Who made thee a ruler and judge over us?" (Acts 7:35; Exodus 2:14).

They rejected him. So Christ also when He came to deliver His people from the power of sin and Satan, they rejected Him too (John 1:11). They said, "We will not have this Man to reign over us." (Luke 19:14).

Being rejected, Moses fled from his people into the land of Midian (Exodus 2:11-4:19). In the time of this estrangement from his brethren, he received a Gentile bride named Zipporah (Exodus 2:21). She is another type of the Church which is being brought in today from the Gentile world by the gospel (Ephesians 5:25-32; Acts 15:14; Romans 11:11).

--- Injecting my own thought here a little bit --- ...

Exodus 4:24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.

Exodus 4:25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

Exodus 4:26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

Take note of the fact that..

* The LORD sought to kill Moses.
* The Gentile Bride of Moses (Zipporah) called him a "bloody husband" - "surely.. art thou to me"

This speaks plainly to me of The LORD God the Father, seeking to kill Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:10)..

and then, by His Blood shed for His bride on Calvary..
surely He is a bloody husband.. (Matthew 26:28, Colossians 1:14, Hebrews 13:20, Revelation 1:5, Revelation 19:13)

--- Returning you to the normal program --- ...

Quote:
Zipporah bore Moses a son, and they named him Gershom which means "a stranger here." This speaks of the character the Church is to have in this world as strangers and pilgrims (1 Peter 2:11). Moses received his Gentile wife before the judgment (10 plagues) began to fall uon Egypt. So Christ will have His bride, the Church with Himself in glory before the Tribulation judgments begin to fall upon this world.

After many years God sent Moses back to the children of Israel (Exodus 3:10;4:19) who were still struggling under the yoke of their Gentile oppressors (a type of the times of the Gentiles, Luke 21:24).

Moses obeyed the command of God and returned to Egypt and began to show himself to his brethren, the children of Israel, who had once rejected him. This is a foreshadow of the Lord resuming His dealings with the nation of Israel after He has taken His bride, the Church to Heaven. When Moses returned to his brethren in Egypt, God began to pour out judgment upon that land in the way of ten plagues (Exodus 7-12:36). God miraculously preserved Israel in the midst of all the judgments which became signs of confirmation to them that God was working on their behalf (Psalms 78:43; 105:27; Exodus 7:3; 8:22-23).

This answers to the Tribulation period when God will pour out His wrath upon this guilty world (Egypt) but at the same time preserve alive the godly remnant of Jews. But where was Zipporah all the while the judgments were falling on Egypt? She was not in the land! Moses had sent her back to the land of Midian before the judgments came forth from God (Exodus 18:1-2). She is not once mentioned during the plagues. Zipporah did not appear on the scene until after all the judgments had fallen on Egypt and the children of Israel were delivered. The Church will also see no part of it. The Church will not appear again until the Tribulation is over and the Lord comes to display His bride to a wondering world in the Millennium (2 Thessalonians 1:10).
Quote:
Leah and Rachel (Genesis 28-30)

Jacob sent forth by his Father, is a picture of God, the Father sending His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ into this world. "The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world." (1 John 4:14). Jacob went forth from his Father's house for two reasons:

Firstly, on account of sin (Genesis 27; Hebrews 9:26), and also to secure a bride for himself (Genesis 28:15; Ephesians 5:25). When Jacob came into the far country he saw Rachel, who is a type of Israel, in the field and desired to have her for himself.

Jacob agreed to purchase her through his own personal toil, which is a prefigure of the work the Lord Jesus Christ would accomplish on the cross in order that He might have a bride.

When it came time for Jacob to receive Rachel, Laban treacherously deceived him so that he did not get her, but Leah instead. God allowed this to happen to Jacob that we might have this marvelous foreshadow of His ways with Israel and the Church. Leah is a type of the Church. After Jacob was given Leah he later received Rachel. This tells the story of God's dispensational ways; when Israel would not be brought in, God has brought in the Church instead in order that his Son might have a bride (Acts 15:14; Romans 11). After the Church will be called away to glory (Rapture) the Lord will receive Israel (Isaiah 54:5-6; 62:4-5; Hosea 2:16).

So Jacob had two brides. Leah (typical of the Church) was received first even though he made his advances toward Rachel (typical of Israel) first.

While Leah's womb was open and bearing children, Rachel's womb was barren (Genesis 29:31). This answers to the present day; while the Church has been bearing fruit to God, Israel has been barren (Isaiah 54:1; Matthew 21:19-21). The point for us to see in this is that Leah had all seven* of her children before Rachel passed into travail (Genesis 30:22; 35:16) to bring forth her children.

Rachel's travail is a picture of Israel's future trial in the Tribulation (Isaiah 66:7-8; Jeremiah 30:6-7; Micah 4:9-10; 5:3; 1 Thessalonians 5:3). Leah was finished bearing before Rachel's travail began! So the Church also will finish its course and time of bearing fruit on earth (every last soul will be saved to form the Church) before Israel will pass into their travail in the Tribulation.

One brief thing I wanted to add/post/show..

2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

2 Corinathians 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

The above is is shown to be true in one respect, in the fact that..

The Giving of the Law and the Giving of the Spirit..

both occuring on Pentecost..

illustrate the point of Law/Spirit, Death/Life very well with the following happenings:

Exodus 32:28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

3,000 Died on the day of the giving of the Law under Moses.

3,000 Lived on the day of the giving of the Spirit under Christ.

A point that really brings home the first scripture I posted..
their's many more comparisons to be made of those days..

I'll edit more of them in later..

:):

(Edit) -

To make a comparison...

We have:

Old Testament Pentecost (The Fiftieth Day)

* Mt. Sinai
* Fire, darkness, trumpet voice, quaking, thunder, and lightning
* Fear of the LORD in the camp of Israel
* Moses the Mediator
* The Old Covenant
* Ministration of Death
* 3,000 people slain
* Written and engraven upon tables of stone
* Written by the Finger of God
* Ministration of Condemnation
* Glory in the face of Moses
* Veil over Moses' face
* Israel not able to look thereon
* The Letter which killeth

New Testament Pentecost (The Fiftieth Day)

* Mt. Zion (Jerusalem)
* Tongues of fire, rushing mighty wind, shaking
* Holy Ghost conviction, fear and wonder fell upon hearers of Gospel as it was preached
* Jesus the Mediator
* The New Covenant
* Ministration of Life
* 3,000 people live
* Written and engraven on tables of the heart and mind
* Written by the Spirit of God
* Ministration of Righteousness
* Glory in the face of Jesus
* Open face of Jesus
* Believer beholds His face
* The Spirit which gives life

One final point of interest.

Moses' life was truly spent "as a tale that is told" ... (Psalm 90:9)

The Giving of the Law (Pentecost) being one of the greatest events in his life (if not the defining one!)

Moses' days numbered up until he passed away at 120 years of age.

120 people were present in the upper room on Pentecost (Acts 1:15)

120 is a significant number prophetically.

Another outstanding post!
thanks.

One thing though, don't know if it is important (but isn't everything?), you start out your thread with a look at the number 4, but you don't talk about how the lights in the heavens were put there for FOUR reasons: signs, seasons, days and years.

I also find it interesting that "months" are left out. Any thoughts on this? Also, the order of the list is interesting.

Paul August 29th, 2003 04:14 PM
In Genesis 22 Abraham has "sacrificed" Isaac and he has been "resurrected". Isaac then leaves the scene for a while.

In the meantime Abraham instructs his chief servant Eliezer (Gen 15:2) to go a find a bride for Isaac. Eliezer name means "Helper".
Eliezer finds a bride in Rebekah whose name means "noose" and we find that she's a person of very poor character. Eliezer leads the bride to Isaac who takes her as his bride. The next time we see Isaac it's when he's revealed with his bride.

Fast forward to the New Testament.

The Father has sacrificed Jesus and He has been ressurected Jesus leaves the scene for a while.

Meanwhile the Holy Spirit -- whom Jesus refered to as The Helper (Compare with Eliezer) -- is gathering a bride for the Son. His bride is made up of people of poor character (Compare with Rebekah).

When we meet our bridegroom we will meet Him in the clouds and we will take us as His bride. The next time the world sees Jesus He will be revealed with His Bride.

THE SEVEN RULES OF HILLEL

The Seven Rules of Hillel existed long before Hillel, but Hillel was the first to write them down. Hillel and Shamai were competitive leading figures in Judaism during the days of Y'shua's youth. Hillel was known for teaching the Spirit of the Law and Shamai was known for teaching the letter of the Law. Whole books have been written about the similarities between the teachings of Y'shua nd those of Hillel. Y'shua's teaching largely followed that of the School of Hillel rather than that of the School of Shamai.
For example, Y'shua's famous "golden rule":

Whatever you would that men should do to you, do you even to them, for this is the Torah and the Prophets.
(Mt. 7:12)

This reads very closely with Hillel's famous statement:
What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour that is the whole Torah...
(b.Shabbat 31a)

Upon Hillel's death the mantle of the School of Hillel was passed to his son Simeon. Upon Simon's death the mantle of the school of Hillel passed to Gamliel. This Gamilel spoke in defense of the early Nazarenes (Acts 5:34-39) he was the teacher of Shaul/Paul (Acts 22:3). In 2Tim. 2:15 Paul speaks of "rightly dividing the word of truth." What did Paul mean by this? Was he saying that there were right and wrong ways to interpret the scriptures? Did Paul believe there were actual rules to be followed when interpreting (understanding) the Scriptures? Was Paul speaking of the Seven Rules of Hillel? Paul was certainly taught these rules in the School of Hillel by Hillel's own grandson Gamliel.

When we examine Paul's writings we will see that they are filled with usages of Hillel's Seven Rules (several examples appear below). It would appear then that the Seven Rules of Hillel are at least part of what Paul was speaking of when he spoke of "rightly dividing the Word of Truth." (2Tim. 2:15).

The Seven Rules of Hillel are:

1. Kal V'Khomer (light and heavy)

Kal v'khomer is the first of the seven rules for understanding the scriptures written by Hillel. Hillel did not invent the rules, in fact they are so old we see them used in the Tenach.

The kol v'komer thoughtform is used to make an argument from lesser weight based on one of greater weight. It may be expressed as:

If X is true of Y then how much more X must be true of Z
(Where Z is of greater weight than Y)

A kol v'khomer argument is often, but not always, signalled by a phrase like "how much more..."

The Rabbinical writers recognize two forms ok kol v'khomer:

kal v'khomer meforash - In this form the kal v'chomer argument appears explicily.

kal v'khomer satum - In which the kal v'khomer argument is only implied.

There are several examples of kal v'khomer in the Tenach.

For example:

Behold the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth:
much more the wicked and the sinner.
(Prov. 11:31)

And:
If you have run with footmen and they have wearied you,
then how can you contend with horses?
(Jer. 12:5a)

Other Tenach examples to look at:

Dt. 31:27; 1Sam. 23:3; Jer. 12:5b; Ezkl. 15:5; Esther 9:12

For those who wish to look as rabbinical usage of implied occurances:
Num. 12:14 & b. BK 25a; Dt. 21:23 & m. San. 6:5
Lev. 21:16-21 & Num. 8:24-25 & b.Hul. 24a

There is also an important limitation to the kal v'khomer thoughtform. This is the dayo (enough) principle. This is that the conclusion of an argument is satisfied when it is like the major premise. In other words the conclusion is equalized to the premise and neither a stricter nor a more lenient view is to be taken. (m.BK 2:5) Rabbi Tarfon rejected the dayo principle in certain cases (b.BK 25a)

There are several examples of kal v'khomer in the New Testament.

Y'shua often uses this form of argument.
For example:

If a man recieves circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the Law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the sabbath?
(Jn. 7:23)

And:
What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
(Mt. 12:11-12)

Other examples of Y'shua's usage of kal v'khomer are:

Mt. 6:26, 30 = Lk. 12:24, 28
Mt. 7:11 = Lk. 11:13
Mt. 10:25 & Jn. 15:18-20
Mt. 12:12 & Jn. 7:23

Paul uses kal v'khomer in:
Rom. 5:8-9, 10, 15, 17; 11:12, 24
1Cor. 9:11-12; 12:22
2Cor. 3:7-9, 11
Philip. 2:12
Phil. 1:16
Heb. 2:2-3; 9:13-14; 10:28-29; 12:9, 25

2. G'zerah Shavah (Equivalence of expresions)

An analogy is made between two seperate texts on the basis of a similar phrase, word or root.

Tenakh example:

By comparing 1Sam. 1:10 to Judges 13:5 using the phrase "no razor shall touch his head" we may conlude that Samuel, like Samson, was a nazarite.

"New Testament" example:

In Hebrews 3:6-4:13 Paul compares Ps. 95:7-11 = Heb. 3:7-11 to Gen. 2:2 =

Heb. 4:4 based on the words "works" and "day"/"today" ("today" in Hebrew is literally "the day"). Paul uses this exogesis to conclude that there will be 6,000 years of this world followed by a 1,000 year shabbat.

3. Binyan ab mikathub echad (Building of the father from one text)

One explicit passage serves as a foundation or starting point so as to constitute a rule (father) for all similar passages or cases.

Heb. 9:11-22 aplies "blood" from Ex. 24:8=Heb. 9:20 to Jer. 31:31-34

4. Binyab ab mishene kethubim (Building of the father from two or more texts)

Two texts or provisions in a text serve as a foundation for a general
conclusion.

A Tenach example:

Ex. 21:26-27 speaks of only eyes and teet, however by use of the fourth rule of Hillel we can recognize that the provision aplies to other body parts as well.

A "New Testament" example:

In Heb. 1:5-14 Paul sites:
Ps. 2:7 = Heb. 1:5
2Sam. 7:14 = Heb. 1:5
Deut. 32:43/Ps. 97:7/(Neh. 9:6) = Heb. 1:6
Ps. 104:4 = Heb. 1:7
Ps. 45:6-7 = Heb. 1:8-9
Ps. 102:25-27 = Heb. 1:10-12
Ps. 110:1 = Heb. 1:13
to build a rule that the Messiah is of a higher order than angels.

5. Kelal uferat (the general and the partcular)

a general statement is first made and is followed by a single remark which particularizes the general principle.

A Tenach example:
Gen. 1:27 makes a general statement which Gen. 2:7, 21 particularizes.

6. Kayotze bo mimekom akhar (analogy made from another passage)

Two passages may seem to conflict until a third resolves the conflict.

Tenach examples:

Lev 1:1 "out of the tent of meeting" and Ex. 25:22 "from above the ark of the covenant between the chrubim" seem to disagree until we examine Num. 7:89 where we learn that Moses entered the tent of meeting to hear YHWH speaking from between the cherubim.

1Chron. 27:1 explaind the numerical disagreement between 2Sam. 24:9 and 1Chron. 21:5.

Ex. 19:20 "YHWH came down upon Mount Sinai" seems to disagree with Dt. 4:36 "Out of Heaven He let you hear His voice" > Ex. 20:19 (20:22 in some editions) reconciles the two by telling us that G-d brought the heavens down to the mount and spoke.
(m.Sifra 1:7)

"New Testament" example:

Paul shows that the following Tenach passages SEEM to conflict:
The just shall live by faith
(Rom. 1:17 = Hab. 2:4)

with

There is none righteous, no, not one...
(Rom. 3:10 = Ps. 14:1-3= Ps. 53:1-3; Eccl. 7:20)

and:

[G-d] will render to each one according to his deeds.
(Rom. 2:6 = Ps. 62:12; Prov. 24:12)

with

Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man whom YHWH shall not impute sin.
(Rom. 4:7-8 = Ps. 32:1-2)

Paul resolves the apparant conflict by citing Gen. 15:6 (in Rom. 4:3, 22):
Abraham believed G-d, and it was accounted to him
for righteousness.

Thus Paul resolves the apparent conflict by showing that under certain circumstances, belief/faith/trust (same word in Hebrew) can act as a substitute for righteousness/being just (same word in Hebrew).

7. Davar hilmad me'anino (Explanation obtained from context)

The total context, not just the isolated statement must be considered for an accurate exegesis.

Conclusion:

Paul certainly would have been taught the Seven Rules of Hillel under Gamilel the grandson of Hillel. Paul clearly used these Seven Rules in his own exogesis. It is evident then that when Paul speaks of "rightly dividing the Word of Truth" (2tim. 2:15) he is speaking at least in part, of the Seven Rules of Hillel. These Seven Rules therefore are invaluable to Nazarene Judaism in interpreting (understanding) the Scriptures.

Possible Rapture Allusions in OT:

"But your dead will live; their bodies will rise, You who dwel in the dust, wake up and shout for joy, Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you, hide yourselfs for a little while until his wrath has passed by.
See, the LORD is coming out out of his dwelling, to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer." (Is 26:19-21)

"Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will sheltered on the day of the LORDs anger." (Zeph 2:3)

"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock." (Ps 27:5)

"Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men." (Ps 12:1)

Possible Rapture Typologies:

Three Groups facing the flood of Noah:
1) Those that perished in the flood
2) Those preserved in the flood
3)Those removed prior to the flood (Enoch)

Isaac's absence after his offering (Gen 22:19- 24:62)

Ruth in the threshing floor scene (Ruth 3:7-9)

Daniel's absence from the fiery furnace (Dan 5)

I think that you may have noticed that the number seven occurs numerous times in the bible, seven represents perfection (but not divinity), here are but a few examples:

seven days of creation (obviously!)- Gen 1
seven days between doves- Gen 8:10, 12
seven lamps of Menorah- Ex 25:37
seven feasts of Israel- Lev 23
seven days of feast of Tabernacles- Lev 23:34-36
seven days of feast of Unleavened Bread- Ex 12:15,19. 13:6,7
seven years of sabbatical year- Lev 25:4
seven priests with their seven tumpets marching around Jericho seven times- Josh 6
Seven deacons in Acts- Acts 6:5
Seven sons of sceva- Acts 19:14
Seven miracles, discourses, and "I AM" statements in Johns Gospel
Seven churches in Revelation (seven structural elements to each letter)- Rev 2, 3
Seven seals, trumpets, angels, plagues, bowls, thunders, personages (The Woman, the Man-Child, the Dragon, the seven-headed Beast, the False Prophet, the Michael, and the Lamb), new things- Revelation
Seven Beatitudes- Rev 1:3, 14:3, 16:15, 19:9, 20:6, 22:7, 22:14

Not an exhaustive list, but only a few of the thousands of sevens you can pluck out of the Scriptures

Dr. Albert Einstein suggested that "God does not play dice." However, the opposite sides of dice equal seven.

THE SEVEN CHURCHES OF REVELATION

I did a study last year on the seven churches in Revelation 2 & 3, and i have to say it was very intersting to say the least.

There is at least four levels of application to these church letters:
1) They were actual historic churches
2) They apply to all the churches throughout history
3) They all apply to each of us
4) They show all of church history

Ephesus Apostolic Age 33-100 A.D.
Smyrna Persecution Age 100-313
Pergamos Imperial Church 313-590
Thyatira Papacy Age 590-Tribulation
Sardis Reformation 1517-Tribulation
Philadelphia Missionary Church 1730-Rapture
Laodecia Apostate Church 1900-Tribulation

Keep in mind though that these are not the true church of Christ (the body of Christ) but they rather represent the visible church on earth.

Joel,

I was seeking the LORD on how I should begin my book/study on the Times and Seasons of the Bible... I had heard several people talk about the days of creation in comparison to the thousand year days from Adam to the Great White Throne of Judgment. Noone had a complete list (or more than just the second and the sixth days having some implications...). Maybe you have found more, and if so please hook me up! ;)

Anyway, this is what the Ruach HaKodesh gave me after much meditation... lemme know your thoughts:
_____________________________________________

The Days of Creation as a Type of the Millennia

According to scripture, there is “nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9), and that “the thing which has been shall be”. Of all the stories that may be told regarding creation, God’s covenants and the people found in the Bible, each story that is included speaks on many different levels. The story of the creation week tells the story of mankind, and reveals the dominate ideas and revelations of each millennia.

In Hosea 5:14-6:2, it says that the LORD “will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him. I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early. Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.” These verses directly prophecy that Jesus (the Lion of the tribe of Judah) will return 2000 years after He was rejected by Israel.

This is also consistent with the teaching of the Rabbis early in the first century Before Christ: the Mishna states in Sanhedrin 97a: Rabbi Kattina said

Quote:
“Six thousand years shall the world exist, and for one thousand (the seventh), it will be desolate (of sin), as it is written ‘And the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.’” (Isaiah 2:11)
Abaye said:

Quote:
“It will be desolate for two thousand, as it is said ‘After two days He will revive us: in the third day he will raise us up and we shall live in his sight’” (Hosea 7:2)
The Tanna debe Eliyyahu teaches:

Quote:
“This present world is to exist six thousand years. In the first two thousand there was desolation; for two thousand years the Torah flourished; and the next two thousand years is the Messianic era, but through our many iniquities all these years have been lost.”
Most of these words were written about years before Jesus’ first advent – proclaiming the coming Messianic Kingdom would last for 2000 years, then a physical return (I also have over 30 quotes from the early church fathers saying the same thing... fyi)! The Jewish sages understood the truth of the thousand year days of creation, which I hope to expand on here. The apostle Peter said it this way:

Quote:
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
II Peter 3:8-9
The apostle, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, revealed that each of the days of creation was representative of a time and age of mankind. Let us examine the days in detail.

The First Day

On the first day of creation, God separated the darkness from the light. This is representative of the division of mankind into two divergent camps of light and darkness. This division began with Cain and Abel, Cain being representative of darkness and Abel of light. The division was complete just after the end of the first 1000 year day, when Noah was born (Noah was born in 1056 AC). It says in Genesis 6:9 that Noah was “perfect in his generations”. The word translated ‘generations’ is the Hebrew word ‘tow’ledah’, which conveys the idea that Noah was the last man of ‘pure’ blood or ancestry. The division was complete and we see the result of the division of light and darkness in the second day.

The Second Day

On the second day, God did several things; He created the heavens (not ‘Heaven’, the place of God’s throne which was created in Genesis 1:1, but instead the ‘heavens’ or ‘atmosphere’ of the planet earth), and separated the waters from the waters. The prophetic concept of waters or seas in the Scriptures represents the nations of the Gentiles. During this millennial day, the flood took place (in 1656 AC) and the tower of Babel separates the Gentiles into nations and tongues during the early 1700s after creation (AC).

The Third Day

On the third day of creation, the dry land appears. The word translated ‘earth’ (which is the name of the dry land) is Ha’Eretz in Hebrew. This is the same word used time and time again in the Tanakh (the Old Testament, consisting of the Torah, the Neviim and the Ketuvim) of the Land of Israel. It is during this third day of creation (from 2000 AC through 2099 AC) that God establishes the Promised Land as a portion of His covenant with Abraham (in 2023 AC). Also during this millennia, Israel enters into the Promised Land (in 2493 AC) and subdue it of their enemies (in 2524 AC) and brought forth the fruit of righteousness. Also during this ‘day’, Israel’s two greatest natural kings begin their reigns (David in 2944 AC, and Solomon in 2984 AC).

The Fourth Day

On the fourth day, God creates the lights, the sun, the moon and the stars (in that order). The luminaries, according to the text, are for “signs, seasons, days and years”. The word translated ‘signs’ is the Hebrew word ‘owth’, which means ‘beacon’, ‘token’ or ‘foretelling sign’. The word translated seasons is the Hebrew word ‘moedim’, which means ‘feasts’, ‘appointments’ or ‘the holy appointed place’. The words translated ‘days’ and ‘years’ have no special meaning that I could find. In my opinion, the stars or ‘lights’ were typical of the Temple worship system that would serve as a sign and precursor to Messiah. With that in mind, consider that the first Temple of God is completed by Solomon in 3007 AC, and the Temple worship system is established with all of its signs that foretell of the coming of Jesus. Exactly 493 years later, in 3500 AC, the second Temple is completed under the supervision of Ezra the High Priest.

Then, toward the end of the fourth day, the sun is created (in Malachi 4:2, Jesus is called the Sun of Righteousness). This typifies the earthly manifestation of the Son of God. Jesus was conceived in 3964 AC, born in 3965, Bar Mitvah’ed in 3977, began His ministry in 3995, and was crucified and resurrected from the dead in 3998 AC. Finally, God created the moon on the fourth day. The moon is a typology of the church. It has no light of its own, but reflects the light of the Sun. The moon also goes through a cycle, where it goes from light to dark and back to light (just as the church began in righteousness, fell into paganism in the middle ages and has returned to the Word of God in these last days). The church began on the day of Pentecost (the Bible feast called Shavuot) in 3998 AC.

The Fifth Day

During the fifth day of creation, the seas and the firmament (which we said before represented Gentiles in covenant with God) bring forth life. Great whales, swimming fishes and abundant life was brought forth on this day. Secondly, the text says that “and fowl that may fly above the earth” (Genesis 1:20). This may be a stretch, but here is my take on these two diverse groups. The fowl of the air are representative of people without covenant, and the fish of the sea are representative of those Gentiles (remember the seas represent the Gentile nations) who are in covenant with God. They both begin to multiply during this millennial day. I find it interesting that the text says that the “fowl may fly above the earth”. As we discussed during the third day, the earth (Ha’Eretz) represents Israel, and during this day, the fowl (those Gentiles without covenant, being motivated by Satan – Jesus likened Satan to the fowls of the air in Mark 4:4, cp to Mark 4:15) will fly above the Earth. This is especially interesting when examined in context of the Prophecy of David regarding the destruction of the Temple (by Babylon in 3413 AC or 554 BC, or by Rome in 4036 AC or 70 AD... it applies more favorably to Rome because of the mention of TWO groups that have covenant with God, His People {Israel} and the Saints {The Church}):

Quote:
O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
Psalm 79:1-2
Beginning in 135 AD (or 4101 AC), when Beiter falls, the Jews are expelled from the Promised Land and dispersed among the nations. After the Jews are dispersed, the Gentiles quickly divide into two camps, those who have covenant through Jesus (the fish of the sea) and those who by default have covenant with Satan (the fowl of the air).

Then, after the fowl fly over the land (i.e. the Gentiles conquer and take over Israel), the seas begin to bring forth life. Until Jesus died and rose from the dead, the only way for a Gentile (represented by the seas) could come into covenant with God is by becoming a Proselyte of Judaism. However, in the fifth day, the seas bring forth life – representing Gentiles coming into covenant with Almighty God through the shed blood of Jesus. Paul, quoting Moses tells of this amazing transformation:

Quote:
But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
Romans 10:19-20
The apostle Peter put it this way:

Quote:
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
I Peter 2:9-10
HalleluYAH! While the seas were barren during the third and fourth day, here in the fifth day they bring forth abundant life unto the LORD!

The Sixth Day

During the sixth day, the first thing that is created is the living creatures, the cattle, the creeping things and the beasts of the earth. The earth, in my opinion, once again represents the Land of Israel, and the beasts of the earth are typical of the fact that the Gentiles dominate the Land in the sixth day. Even during the Tribulation, the angel reveals that the city of Jerusalem and the outer courts of the Temple are given unto the Gentiles until Jesus returns:

Quote:
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
Revelation 11:1-2
The word translated cattle in Genesis 1:24 and 25 is ‘behaymaw’, which means ‘a wild animal that has been domesticated’. During this last thousand years, man has become domesticated. We have shed some of our more wild ways and become sophisticated and philosophical in nature. This last day is mainly typical of the domination of man over the earth. During the last thousand years, there has been a progression of technology, learning and communication that was unheard of in the previous five millennia combined. Man has truly become the master of all creation to the point of bringing it near to destruction.

Man has come from using the lever and wheel as the highest form of mechanical manipulation to the pulley, and even to the point of harnessing hydraulic and pneumatic power. We have come from the divine right of kings to the rule of law in the last 500 years, while the Republican Democracy has become the highest form of human government. This has truly been the millennia of man.

The seventh day

The seventh day, according to scripture was the day of rest:

Quote:
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Genesis 2:1-3
The seventh day is the day of the LORD. It is the day of rest when Jesus returns to establish the Messianic Kingdom in Israel. This day begins with a time of judgment for the earth, and ends with the Great White Throne of judgment for mankind. And the LORD alone shall be exalted! HalleluYAH!

These are some comparisons that i read somewhere ages ago between Moses and Jesus (i cant remember all of them and i cant remember the source where i got them from).

Moses

Pharoah had all male children killed at the time of Moses' birth.

Moses led his people out of physical bondage in Egypt.

Israel followed the words spoken by Moses.

The ten commandments were given through Moses.

Moses built the Tabernacle.

Christ

Herod had all male children killed at the time of Christ's birth.

Christ led his people out of the spiritual bondage of sin.

Christians follow the words spoken by Christ.

God gave the gospel, through Jesus Christ.

Christ built the True Tabernacle- the Church.

First of all, this thread needs a good BUMP because there are a lot of new people on the board.
Secondly I have something to add.

Now, I’m not saying that the Leonid shower this year is prophetic. But we need to understand exactly what the meteor shower is all about and why all the pieces of this puzzle are extremely interesting!
There are actually three Leonid displays expected this year. The first is due Nov. 13, when Earth encounters a trail of dust shed by the Comet Tempel-Tuttle in the year 1499. This Leonid display favors those living in central and eastern Asia and Australia.
Another burst of activity may come Nov. 19, when Earth interacts with a dust trail from the year 1533. A rate of up to 100 per hour is possible. Much of eastern and central North America will be in a favorable position to see this display, but many of the meteors are expected to be faint.
The best hope for significant Leonid activity may come from a component of the Leonid stream known as "the Filament," also due Nov. 19. The Filament is composed of the sum of numerous dust trails shed by Tempel-Tuttle over many centuries. It should take about a day for the Earth to fully pass through it. The greatest activity may come near 12:30 a.m. ET (5:30 GMT) on Nov. 19, highly favoring western Africa and western Europe, though the northeast U.S. and eastern Canada would also be rotating into position to see peak activity as well. A filament is what enables a light bulb to give off light!
A Leonid is one whose path, if traced backward, intersects a point called the shower's radiant. That spot is inside the curve of stars that marks the "blade" of the Sickle of Leo. The handle begins with the star Regulas and is the brightest star in that constellation and the chief or king star (the king star of Yehudah). All ancient civilizations recognized Regulus as the king star, the one and only king star in the zodiac. Regulus means kingly in Latin. The Arabic word regel means foot and is identical in meaning to the Aramaic word regla and the Hebrew word regel. Thus the brightest star in the constellation of Arieh, has the Biblical connotation of the foot, tying in with the "from between his feet," of Genesis 49:10 ("the sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be") represented by the king star, Regulus.

The Sickle begins rising out of the east-northeast sky after about 11 p.m. local standard time and is poised high in the south as dawn begins to break. That is why Leonid watching is generally best between midnight and dawn. (Mark 24:9 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come. Rev. 14:4 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud [one] sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. Rev 14:16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. Rev 14:17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. Rev 14:18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. Rev 14:19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast [it] into the great winepress of the wrath of God.)
The sign of Leo (according to Bullinger’s work on the stars) is made up of three constellations: Hydra – the old serpent destroyed (Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years); Crater – the cup of wrath poured out upon him (Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: Rev 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.); and Corvus – the Bird of Prey devouring him.(Eze 39:17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, [even] a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.)
There are many stories associated with Leo that are interesting. One story is that one night in June of 2 B.C., Venus and Jupiter came so close together in the constellation of Leo that they seemed like one. This produced an extremely brilliant “star” in the sky. Astronomers think that his event could explain the Star of Bethlehem that foreshadowed the birth of Jesus.

Looking backwards towards Adam kind of makes some of the tougher questions 'evaporate', doesnt it? What I mean is... The supposed 'incosistancies' in God's behavior are all part of the Creative act.

Man is still in the process of 'becomming', but the process is nearly completed.

AN INTERESTING LOOK AT A HEALING OF JESUS

Joh 9:7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Joh 9:8 The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
Joh 9:9 Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
Joh 9:10 Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
Joh 9:11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
Joh 9:12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.

-The touch comes first from the Lord, the anointing of the eyes.
- We then wash, in water and in blood.
-The blind man did not ask for healing -- a type of the Gentiles who did not ask
- Jesus did the work as a teaching to his disciples -- who were Jewish.
- The man was blind from birth -- a resemblance to the heathen nations.
-The clay Jesus spread on the blind man's eyes -- represents the sin of Adam, made of earth.
- When he washed, he saw.
- This also answers the question of John 9:2 -- who sinned, this man or his parents? It was Adam and Eve.

I have a new riddle I need some help with.

In the books of Matthew and again in Mark, we have the stories of Jesus feeding the multitudes. Here is what I have found interesting:

First feeding:
Right after Jesus hears of the beheading of John the Baptist, he heads to the desert.
Second feeding:
Jesus has just finished telling the Gentile women that she may "eat the crumbs which fall from the masters' table."

First feeding:
A multitude follows Him and He has compassion on them and heals their sick. (Implying he goes to them)
Second feeding:
The people seek Him out and lay down their infirm at His feet. (The people go to him)

First feeding:
The people have been with Jesus all day and the disciples are concerned that they get to eat.
Seconding feeding:
The people have been with Jesus for three days and He is concerned that they get to eat.

First feeding:
Five loaves feeds five thousand men (besides women and children)
Second feeding:
Seven loaves feeds four thousand men (besides women and children)

First feeding:
12 baskets remain (representing the 12 disciples?)
Second feeding:
7 baskets remain (representing perfection?)

I wonder if the first feeding was a representation of the Jews and the second for the Gentiles.

Anybody want to add anything?

I was just thinking about this thread!

Have you ever heard this one?

This account from the Talmud in Yoma 9a

Quote:
"Our Rabbis taught: during the last forty years before the destruction of the Temple, the lot for the L-rd (on Yom Kippur) did not come up in the right hand; nor did the crimson-colored strap become white (on the neck of the scapegoat); nor did the western-most light shine; and the doors of the Hekal (Temple) would open by themselves."
On Yom Kippur a sacrifice was made on behalf of the people for forgiveness of sins. After the sacrifice was made a scarlet thread turning white was a sign that their sins were forgiven. (See Isaiah "Though your sins be as scarlet they will be made white as snow...")

In the year that Jesus was crucified the sacrifice was no longer accepted by God. The Rabbis saw this as a sign that the temple would be destroyed. They explain why in Yoma 9b...

Quote:
"Why was the Second Temple destroyed, seeing that the people were engaged in Torah, commandments and charitable deeds? Because at that time there was hatred without a cause."
Who was hated without cause? The Romans? Certainly not! Rabbi Yeshua ben Yosef quoted Psalm 35:19, "Let not those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; let not those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye."

Jesus said "They hated me without reason" (John 15:25)

It's fascinating isn't it? :nod

There is so much more material to add, I don't know where to begin with. I probably shouldn't have let it slip down under :confused .. if anything ever crosses in your mind, by all means.

Paul , I love posts like these. The whole thread. Hope they keep coming. That of yours was pretty deep, but after reading it I thought of verses that seems to me to fit -- do they to you?

Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God.
Heb 10:8 Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law),
Heb 10:9 then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

I know. I really want to start writing about the Messianic Prophecies because it's a goldmine. It's probably the best evidence for Christianity and hardly anyone ever covers it.

I wasn't aware of any prophecy concerning the Body of Christ. Old or New Testament. .. Especially as Paul said that The Mystery concerning The Body of Christ (Gentile Christianity as we know it today) had been a Mystery (secret) not known since the world began.

Perhaps you mean the shadows of Jesus ministry on earth which were salted all over the place in OT prophecy?

That's it. The life and mission of the Messiah (Jesus) was foetold in the Old Testament and recorded for us in the New Testament.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been recounting this to so many people over the past couple years...but had NO SOURCE! Thank you so very, very, very much!

Fascinating is an understatement in my opinion...God is so awesome, He continually boggles my mind and excites my heart. Wow.

Dr. Fruchtenbaum teaches about it in his "Life of Messiah" series, but didn't give a specific source in the Talmud, unfortunately. Now I know it's specific place, thanks to Joel.

I've read part of the Messiah In Light Of The Old Testament. Really interesting stuff. When you have non-Christian rabbi after non-Christian rabbi talking about messianic prophecies it blows away the anti-missionary argument that the Christians took random verses and made them messianic prophecies.

Pretty amazing, huh? That book alone has so much....!!!

I'm in the midst of reading a little bit lighter book: Moishe Rosen's Yeshua, The Jewish Way to Say Jesus . It's a good little book...!

Godspeed,

120 is a significant number prophetically.

* Noah's divine decree of grace expired after 120 cycles, whereupon the Flood occured.
* Moses' life expired after 120 cycles, whereupon Israel entered into Caanan.
* The porch of Solomon's Temple being 120 cubits in height.
* 120,000 sheep sacrificed the dedicatory day of Solomon's temple.
* 120 Priests blew 120 shofars in the dedication of Solomon's Temple, whereupon the Shekinah Glory of God filled the House.
* Queen Sheba [Seven] offered 120 talents of Gold to Solomon [along with receiving 666 talents of gold in one year].
* 120 persons were present in the upper room on Pentecost.

In fact, most of these seem to deal with Solomon.. [but there are more]
