spiritually called 'Sodom and Egypt'..

:: Revelation 11.

I've never been an adherent of this view before, but with some items I've been finding... is it such a stretch to also label her Mystery Babylon?

I'll post some things I found intriguing when I get back from work. :):

Joel December 30th, 2006 10:52 AM
Revelation 17

And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me: Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness, and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication, and upon her forehead was a name written: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus, and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

And the angel said unto me: Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. And here is the mind which hath wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is LORD OF LORDS and KING OF KINGS, and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfill his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Revelation 18

And after these things I saw another angel come down from Heaven, having great authority. And the earth was lighted up from his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying: Babylon the great has fallen, has fallen! And it has become the dwelling-place of demons, and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a cage of every unclean bird which has been hated, because of the wine of the anger of her fornication which all the nations have drunk. And the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her. And the merchants of the earth became rich from the power of her luxury.

And I heard another voice from Heaven, saying: Come out of her, My people, that you may not be partakers of her sins, and that you may not receive of her plagues. For her sins joined together, even up to Heaven, and God has remembered her unjust deeds. Reward her as she has rewarded you, and double to her double, according to her works. In the cup which she mixed, mix double to her. As much as she has glorified herself and has lived in luxury, so much torment and sorrow give her. For she says in her heart: I sit as a queen, and I am not a widow; and I do not see mourning at all. Therefore her plagues will come in one day, death and mourning and famine. And she will be consumed with fire, for the Lord God who judges her is strong.

And the kings of the earth who have committed fornication and lived in luxury with her will weep for her, and will wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning; standing afar off for fear of her torment, saying: Woe! Woe to the great city, Babylon, that strong city! For in one hour your judgment came.

And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their cargo any more; the cargo of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and every ivory vessel, and every vessel of very precious wood, and of bronze, and of iron, and of marble, and cinnamon, and incenses, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

And the fruits of the lust of your soul have departed from you, and all the fat things and the bright things departed from you, and you will find them no more, not at all.

The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, will stand afar off because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning and saying: Woe! Woe to the great city which was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! For in one hour such great riches was desolated.

And every ship-pilot, and all the company on the ships, and sailors, and as many as work the sea, stood afar off. And they cried out, seeing the smoke of her burning, saying: What is like the great city? And they threw dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe! Woe to the great city, by which all who had ships in the sea were rich out of her costliness! For in one hour she was ruined.

Rejoice over her, Heaven, and the holy apostles, and the prophets, since God judged your judgment on her.

And one strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying: So on an impulse the great city, Babylon, will be thrown down and not at all will be found any more.

And the voice of harpers, and of musicians. and flutists, and of trumpeters will be heard no more at all in you. And every craftsman of any craft will not be found any more in you. And the sound of a mill will never more be heard at all in you. And the light of a lamp will never more shine at all in you. And the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride will never more be heard at all in you. For your merchants were the great ones of the earth; for by your sorceries all nations were deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all those who were slain on the earth.

The context also says, "Where our Lord was crucified." That is Jerusalem.

I dunno, but Israel is scheduled to be restored to God, not totally distroyed as is Babylon.

Simple Logic.

Mystery, Babylon- distroyed
Israel- restored

A + B does not equal C

CitySearcher December 31st, 2006 10:14 PM
Something is restored only after it has been destroyed, IMHO.

Mystery Babylon is upon the entire Earth, not just the M.E. and Israel is technically all of the M.E. to include Egypt. Israel has been referred to by many names, spiritually and physically, including Egypt and Sodom. I don't plan on sticking around to find out who is who and what is what! :thumb

God bless.

DeeLeeKay December 31st, 2006 10:18 PM
Israel is currently not living life according to God. It will though in the MK.

Babylon will be distroyed never to be inhabited again.

CitySearcher December 31st, 2006 10:31 PM
Most of Israel will be destroyed during the tribulation and at the time Jesus' feet touch the Mount of Olives at His Second Coming. He will restore Israel after His return.

Babylon (the city) has already been destroyed in the OT, and will never be inhabited again....IMO

Mystery Babylon is a world-wide religious system with a city base, represented by the harlot. I don't believe the ancient city of Babylon and this "great city" are the same place. Possibly New York, Hollywood/LA, Tokyo, Dubai, or even the Vatican. ( :tape )

DeeLeeKay January 1st, 2007 03:39 PM
Babylon is a city sitting on the Euphrates River. It was not distroyed as a city in the OT.

CitySearcher January 1st, 2007 06:35 PM
I know about Babylon....at least enough to know that Nebuchadnezzar's son, Belshazzar was the last King of Babylon. The Medes & Persians sacked & burned the city in the time of Daniel, and it has not been rebuilt since then or as God's Word says, will never be inhabited again forever. Saddam tried to rebuild the city & failed. I'm not sure why you think it was not destroyed in the OT? :confused My bible contridicts that statement.

Daniel: 5:25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 5:26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. 5:27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 5:28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians. 5:29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. 5:30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain. 5:31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

I am confused. My maps all tell me that Babylon is still a city. And it is inhabited. :confused

CitySearcher January 1st, 2007 06:51 PM
No-body lives there. Many tourists visit, but there is no permanent lodging. Saddam began rebuilding the outter walls and was working on a plush museum. I believe he had plans to rebuild the entire city and move the capital to there from Bagdad. I believe the museum was ransacked during Desert Storm and alot of the stuff was stolen.

I've seen many pictures of the ancient city, and besides the partial walls that Saddam had built, the entire site still lies in ruins.

God bless, -Stephen

Really? I thought that the US is building a fortress-like embassy in Babylon,

:shrug

near, but not in Babylon. The Dept. of antiquities will not let anyone build on top of the ancient city. Too many artifacts may be disturbed.

Have a great day Dee.

So, the "plains of shinar" is still occupied.

You're a tricky one! :lol

I suppose it is "occupied" to some extent. Don't have an answer for that one, but I believe Babylon, the city, will never be rebuilt as a governing city.

Were the chapters from Revelations the "intriguing" things you alluded to, or is there more?

I tend to think that the reason it is called "Mystery Babylon", is because it is just that...a mystery...one that we won't understand until it is actually done away with or just before that point.

Historically and through prophecies found in Isaiah Cyrus diverted the Euphrates river, marched under the wall where the river normally flowed. The center gates (inside the city) were left open because of the drunken feast Belshazzar was having. A group of soldiers broke into the palace and killed the king. The Persians made Babylon one of it's capital cities, as did the Greeks. Alexander died in Babylon of malaria. The Persians dug a lake north of Babylon and diverted the river into this new lake causing the cities waterway to mysteriously vanish at night. Isaiah tells about the gates being left open for my chosen Cyrus.

The mudbrick city had decayed over the years but has never been destroyed.

Interesting....I will say this though, in spite of what many on this board believe, the Lord made His thoughts and feelings known about those who ruled that city (ruled His people....ruled His words), in that day. I'm not sure much has changed. The Lord is coming with untold thousands to execute judgement, and that city is what will be purged first.

But, Revelation tells us what the "Mystery" is.

Zec 5:7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this [is] a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.
Zec 5:8 And he said, This [is] wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.
Zec 5:9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind [was] in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.
Zec 5:10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?
Zec 5:11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.
