My old flip phone (remember those!) finally needed replacement so off we go to get a real phone, as my son called it. I know nothing about those touch screen monstrosities and since the phone plan is in Maria's name I had to bring her along to answer questions regarding the account. The woman helping me, she couldn't have been over 25, took it with grace and humor. While she had her back turned I leaned over to Maria and said, "Why does it take so long now to buy a d****d phone?" Since I'm hard of hearing I said it a bit too loud. The whole department laughed! We get home and I'm reading the manual while Maria is off watching some movie when suddenly she was laughing hysterically. "There's two old people buying a smart phone and the old guy says, "Why does it take so long to buy a d*****d phone!"" Edited by Blackjack, July 8, 2018, 7:07 am.

At church this morning, it was announced that due to the large crowds that we have been having recently in both the 8 AM and 11 AM services (today's 8AM service had only 6 unoccupied seats), starting in September we will be adding a third worship service each Sunday. The odd part is that instead of adding a third service time, the new service will be held at the same time as the existing 11 AM service in a different room, and the pastor will preach to both services by way of video screen. Not sure I like that idea. If I wanted to watch a church video rather than a live service, I could stay home and turn on the TV or computer. I'd much rather that they add another time slot or else have one of the other pastors preach to the new service. |

That is a klutzy solution, Mel. I wouldn't like it. Your church certainly must be growing! Many churches across the country would like to have that problem, surely. I'm sitting here editing photographs with the Brewers/Braves baseball game on low in the background. Sweetie's napping on the waterbed, and all the dogs are asleep as well. It's "only" 94 degrees this afternoon with a heat index of 99. There is no wind to speak of so everything is still under the blazing sun. I'm sleepy too, but I'm afraid if I laid down to nap it would ruin the rest of my day. So ... I'm determined to keep slogging along. :ohno |

When my work schedule allows me to go to church, I usually attend the 8AM service anyway, so the new system of duel 11AM services doesn't really affect me personally, but I still think that it could have been handled better. Years ago (mid 1980's) when I was attending this church the first time we had a very large congregation, and there were four worship services each Sunday. If I remember right after all these years, it was 7:30AM, 9AM, 10:30AM, and 7PM with early and late Sunday school classes taking place during the 9AM and 10:30AM services. As I've posted before, in the mid 90's the church got a new pastor who took it in a very seeker sensitive direction during which time I stopped going there for several years. And I was not the only one to leave. They probably lost 75%+ of the congregation over that general period of time, and the number of services was gradually reduced to just one due to lack of people. It was under the leadership of the pastor before the current one that the church really came back to the way it should be and the congregation started growing again. Some former members such as myself have returned and more and more new people have been coming in during the last few years. It was around the time that I started going there again in 2014 that they went to the current two service system with the 8AM service being a traditional church service with the older hymns in the church sanctuary and the 11 AM service being a more modern worship service with contemporary Christian music in the church's gymnasium. Under the new system, both the sanctuary and the gymnasium will be in use for the 11 Am service. Evidently, the pastor will preach in the sanctuary every other week and in the gymnasium on the other weeks, with a video monitor set up in the other location. I can understand our main pastor not wanting to add a third service time and have to preach three times back to back every Sunday, but why couldn't one our other four pastors or one of the other elders help out with preaching duties for one of the services like they do when he is sick or on vacation. :shrug Edited by M. Good morning! That hud house on which I put in a bid for my buyers, well, I can see online their bid is marked U/R, for Under Review. Yay, making progress. I'll check a little later to see if it's coded AC, for Accepted. :wink . . . Hoping, hoping! Gonna be in the mid-90s today, with lots of humidity. :B: Y'all have a great Monday! |

:lostwings My buyer didn't get the hud house! They bid more than full price, and still didn't get it. :freaked She's bummed, I'm bummed. :sigh Well, long day. I'm cooking dinner & then prolly going to bed early. This humidity is still kicking my behind. Fortunately, the wind is supposed to pick and really howl with the temp topping 100 by late weak - maybe this place will finally dry out! That would be awesome. :nod How was y'all's day? |

Just a typical day at work. No real problems, but I am so tired of dealing with obnoxious (to put it nicely) customers day in and day out. I would really like to find a job that is not retail (or at least not the customer service end of retail), but there just isn't much available around here and relocating is not really a viable option anytime in the near future. May on the other hand had a very good day as you can below: May spots her prey: Posted Image May sneaks up on her prey: Posted Image May captures her prey: Posted Image Images hosted on Flikr.com Edited by M.
