Cold and windy in northern Iowa, wind gust 35-40 with some up to 50. It sure shook the car a few times this morning with driving up. Tomorrow 12-15 in the morning. :cold It will be too cold.

Like the pic Mel.

Helped fill the Easter eggs yesterday at the NH for the Easter Egg Hunt. So much for doing therapy, no one was really interested in it. :lol

Don't feel bad Mel we have a chance for snow on Monday and Tuesday. The 17 inches the brothers got last weekend are pretty much gone. Guess it is good to get heavy wet snow at times.

Jesus Christ Superstar is going to be a live performance on NBC at 7 tomorrow night. John Legend is going to play Jesus and Alice Cooper is King Herod. Thought is was interesting to have Alice Cooper as King Herod. I saw Jesus Christ Superstar several years ago when Ted Neely could still belt out those high notes like he did in the movie.

Remember a few weeks ago when I told how my sister took one of these ancestry DNA tests and was disappointed to find that she is 0.0% Native American? I got my test results today, from 23andMe. I (we) am 2.5% Native American. As it turns out people with native DNA sometimes do not show up in these genetic test. Unless she has to have a piece of paper with numbers on it it's not a big deal. Have a retest from a different testing company.

Some surprises! 0.4% West African, and quite a few Neanderthal markers (no percentages on that.) That will thrill my sister in law from Heck since she is already convinced that I am no better than a monkey or cave man.

No surprises. 95.7% European (French, German, British.)

Well, Scott, I think this whole dna testing business is quite the can of worms. It really struck a nerve between me and a relative. :tape She won't even talk family genealogy with me now because I wouldn't submit a dna test.

Here goes - let me rant (it's not directed toward you, it's simply my kneejerk reaction coming out as to why I won't even do a dna test).

I think the dna tests are one of the biggest scams going so far in the 21st century. The more I read, the more disgusted I become.

For example, ancestry.com's fine print is written so that the Subject essentially gives up the right to their own DNA. As a result of that:

Quote:

Buried in the “Informed Consent” section, which is incorporated into the Terms of Service, Ancestry.com warns customers, “it is possible that information about you or a genetic relative could be revealed, such as that you or a relative are carriers of a particular disease. That information could be used by insurers to deny you insurance coverage, by law enforcement agencies to identify you or your relatives, and in some places, the data could be used by employers to deny employment.”

This is a massive red flag. The data “you or a genetic relative” give to AncestryDNA could be used against “you or a genetic relative” by employers, insurers, and law enforcement.
https://thinkprogress.org/ancestry-com-takes-dna-ownership-rights-from-customers-and-their-relatives-dbafeed02b9e/

And then, there's the whole accuracy issue ... www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-2522-inside-shady-world-dna-testing-companies.html ... great article, but there are a number of F-bombs in it, so if that bothers you, check out a similar article here, but much shorter: https://americasfreedomfighters.com/dna-testing-white-people/.

23andMe is now offering genetic testing to alert people to the possibility they could be at risk for developing certain diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. But then, they provide no genetic counseling or further testing, setting up conditions of near-panic in some results recipients. How is that helpful? https://www.popsci.com/23andme-is-probably-terrible-idea

If you read these articles, you'll see a set of triplets sent in their samples and none of the 3 received the same results. How could that be?

If I had a couple of thousand dollars to work with, I'd find a real test facility that had the means to tell me what part of what country on which continent my ancestors came from, and which other country I'm derived from ... I remember early talk and reading a couple of articles, back in the mid-90s about how specific dna testing would get pretty quick, but it would be costly. I made up my mind at that time, that's what I was gonna hold out for! :thumb

/rant . . . I think it's sad that your sister has placed so much emphasis on the results of these dna tests. As for your sister-in-law who thinks you're no better than a monkey or a cave man, you cracked me up with that! :hug

And then, there's the whole accuracy issue ...
Yup. I read most of that stuff before and the one about the triplets when it was first reported. What can one say about that? I only did it because my sister was surprised (not upset) by it and, as a result, curiosity got the better of me. Up to that point I had resisted because of all of the reasons you cite. The fact that we got different results proves that accuracy can be lacking.

That having been said, my results were almost exactly what I had expected. That is, the results confirmed my own genealogy research. Basically I am 97% European, 2.5% Native American and 0.5% other.

One disturbing thing that came out of this: We KNOW our native ancestry all the way back to the Menominee Chief in the early 1700s, mostly through the FEMALE line down to my grand-father. If he was part Native American (and there is no doubt) the only possibility is that my mother was sired by another man. We both immediately jumped to this conclusion. That was terribly unfair of us especially since granny is not here to defend herself. My test put this to rest.

There are several articles on the web warning, in great detail, that Native American DNA often does not show up on these tests, and why. Both Ancestry.com (sis's test) and 23andMe (my test) also point this out. That, I wish I had known in advance. I guess that lets "Pocahontas" off the hook should she ever decide to get a test, eh? :pound

Happy Easter!!!!! Have a blessed day and celebration.

Cold here this morning, church was great, can smell the ham cooking. :hungry

Watched a show on PBS last night on "The Last Days of Jesus." They said there was new evidence given for Jesus last days on earth. It claims that Jesus was arrested 6 months earlier during the Feast of the Tabernacles and imprisoned for 6 months before being crucified. It is amazing how they wove their new evidence to make it seem believable. :frusty It talked of a conspiracy between King Herod and some Roman soldier, Jesus was purposeful with his rise to and intended to have control of the temple etc. We kept yelling at the TV :gaah Of course they never mentioned Jesus was the Christ and had risen after 3 days. Wonder how many people got so taken in by that trash. :sad

That aside have a wonderful Easter.

:wave Afternoon, all! Hope you're warm, and out of the wind. lol

It's currently 41 degrees, windchill is 32 degrees. My toes are frozen; I just came in from a mad dash to Wal-Mart to pick up the items I didn't have (like most of them :ohno ) to make pho for dinner.

I had a nice lunch with my parents after church today.

I spoke with Sharon's Mom on the phone this afternoon to wish her a happy Easter. She is doing well. She absolutely adores her newest great granddaughter (my great niece who was born in February).
