Good morning! :wave

8 degrees here this morning.

Today the forecast is for the temperature to get up to around 30 this afternoon, but then the next 3 days are expected to set record lows at night with high winds likely. :cold

We are dealing with frozen pipes at my parents house. They have had no water since yesterday morning. The plumber wasn't able to get to them yesterday, but said that he would try to come out sometime today.

:pray2 that there isn't any major damage to their plumbing and that we can get their water working again today.

Praying in agreement for the plumbing not to be damaged at your parents' house, and for the water to be thawed out.

It's 17 here this morning with a windchill of 9. We're supposed to be above freezing after lunch today. The local news team was counting up 'how many' hours we've been under freezing - it's up to a handful of days or a little more.

A new record set in Boston for the number of consecutive days the temperature has been below 20 degrees. Last record of that type was set in 1917.

Good Morning America reported a few minutes ago that Juneau, AK set a new record high yesterday at 44 degrees. Jacksonville, FL was not that warm yesterday.

Later: Temperature is currently 49 degrees. :high5 Long afternoon. Met my mom at her eye appt to see if she should have cataract surgery. That took about 2-1/2 hours. The doctor was totally disgusted with the traveling optometrist, or whatever he is, who waited over 2 years to refer mom for cataract surgery. The doctor said she is legally blind and surely has been for years! Well, I'd put that traveling eye guy in the same category as the traveling dentist who took her teeth. I suspect they're in this racket for all the medicaid money they can suck out of this state. And this is how I feel about that: :mad ... :rollpin I'm wondering if it would do any good to write a letter to DHS and complain - ? I don't know.

Barb I think you should contact DHS. It is horrible the way the elderly are robbed and taken advantage of and the medicad money being used wrong. Did I say that right??? :confused

Today is the warmest day it has been and at 8 degrees it felt almost balmy. I get discusted at the snow that accumulates behind the tires on the front and it freezes and is hard to get rid of. I tried kicking some of it off the car because it was rubbing against the tire......it hurt my foot more and only a small chip of snow fell off. :frusty

Colds are going around the NH, one person gets sick and it just spreads like wild fire.
Marty is doing well, no surgeries are going to be needed. :high5 And may be discharged over the next day or so. They think is arm will heal just being placed in a cast.

Had my mamogram done at the VA today, they have 3D imaging. For some reason I did not think the girls would be smashed between the plates of machine......wrong. :hysterical But it was alot quicker.

Scott is Boston going to get hit by that storm that will be moving up the coast???

:grouphug

It's been cold here but not nearly as cold as y'all are having. Had a lovely Christmas, Mark's birthday, and New Years in Yakima with Mark's family. Back home since Monday and started my new quarter at school on Tuesday. Hope it gets easier! A&P is a LOT of work so far. I have spent hours upon hours studying. It's interesting, but I'm already exhausted! Good night!

Good morning! 19 and feels like 12, so not too bad, compared to what we've had over the past week. Not going to be 'quite' as warm as yesterday, probably.

If you're anywhere in the vicinity of this winter "bomb" of a storm, I hope you're warm & dry with water and electricity/gas and plenty of supplies.

Aaaargh! I was just in the middle of a very long winded answer when some stupid piece of seldom used software updated and shut down my browser without warning. Everything lost! Here's the truncated answer. Yep, we're getting slammed.

About a foot of snow so far with 4 more hours to go. Pretty windy but not reaching blizzard stage. It is surprisingly warm, nearly 30 degrees, compared to last week's low teen daytime highs. Running the snow blower later won't be so bad. Lots of flooding along the entire coast. It's bad. They're having to rescue people out of their second story windows with a front end loader in some places. :freaked

edit to add: The extremely high tide is flooding the subway in places.

Wow that is alot of snow Scott, but glad you are not in the Blizzard. Be safe and stay warm.
What is meant by a "bomb" of a storm???

Mel how are the pipes at your parent's all fixed.

Mega millions is 445 million and Powerball is 550 Million. Just give me a small portion and I would be happy.

Cathy hope school goes well this semester. Glad you had good Christmas and New Years.

Jeanette did you get any snow with that system???

Bomb is short for bombogenesis (a word I had never heard before yesterday.) It's a condition where the atmospheric pressure in a storm drops more than 24 millibars in 24 hours or less. I have no idea what that means no matter how many times the weather guys tried to explain it. Evidently it makes for very strong winds as air moves from a high pressure area to the low pressure area. We sure had some strong winds today!

It is very cold here tonight. Current temperature is -4. Overnight temperature could get down to -15. The next two days are expected to be even colder. Our area also has an dangerous wind chill advisory in effect from 10 PM tonight through Saturday night. :cold But by early next week, the daytime temperatures are expected to be back up into the 40s.

We did finally get my parents water working again. Turns out that they needed an electrician rather than a plumber. The heat tape on the water supply line under their house needed a new thermostat. The old one was only about 3 years old having been installed after the house was built in late 2014.

Happy to hear your parents have water again, Mel! Hope y'all stay safely warm, hydrated, and indoors till this weather system moves on! Mel, are you working or are most businesses closed? That deep freeze cold you're talking about boggles my mind. I can't even imagine it.

Hope things don't get any worse in your area either, Scott. That's wild that the subway is flooding - I saw an article on the Aquarium station being close till further notice because of it.

Hope it's not hitting your area, Jeanette. I have a friend in Tift County, GA who drives a schoolbus. She was really hoping schools would be closed today but they weren't. She said many people there have never seen snow before so the inch+ that had fallen by last evening was pretty shocking to them.

Good luck this quarter, Cathy!

I agree with you, Carmen ... I could do a lot with a simple $1 million. :heh
