Wish Martha Stewart was My Sister!

Thanks, Jeanette! I need to order new business cards real soon and am determined to have a new headshot taken. The one I have on my cards was fine 10 years ago, but, now ... :heh We had a 'little problem' last night. Neither of us had turned up the waterbed heater since the weather turned colder. Edward turned it up yesterday morning because it is supposed to be so cold all weekend. He said last night that he'd probably turned it up a little too much, haha, but we decided to leave it like this till the middle of next week. About 12:30 then, I woke up coughing and gagging. I could smell this awful smell - like a combination of rotten food, and something burning. I jumped right out of bed, trying to clear my throat and walked around the house. Couldn't find anything amiss so headed back to bed. I could really smell 'it' by the bed so grabbed my cell phone for the light. I moved the pillows and grabbed the cell phone charger, which was plugged into an extension cord. Those cords were stretched across the head of the bed, under our pillows. Those cords were so hot where they plugged together, I could barely touch them, and the heat was moving down each cord. I woke up Edward and we pulled those cords right off the bed. I slept pretty good the rest of the night. We talked about it this morning. I'm so thankful I woke up. My comment was that if the plastic on those cords had continued to heat up & melt, we might have died from inhalation of the chemicals. He said if those cords had melted, they could have melted a hole in the waterbed mattress and then we'd have had an electrocution issue. :faint We're both feeling very thankful that God isn't through with us here yet. We had 2 dogs on the bed with us too - |

May loves popcorn. She won't eat it, but she loves to get a piece of it, lick off the butter and salt, and bat it around the room until there is nothing left but crumbs. :May |

Thanks, Mel, Jeanette, and Carmen. I definitely give the credit to God for waking me up. I've texted our tenants to remind them to let their faucets drip. Most have texted back to assure me they are/will. I hope so! :thumb It's been a football-watching game around our house today. I watched the Taxslayer Bowl because I didn't know the Liberty Bowl was on. Sweetie was watching it in the living room. We've both watched the Fiesta Bowl and now the Orange Bowl is on. Wish we had some oranges - I'd be eating them. Going to have to pick up a few at the grocery store. It's getting cold in the house ... I'm going to have to turn up the heat. I've been all the way outside twice today. Once to get the newspaper, and once to walk out back with the dogs. I need to take those dogs out one more time and then close up the doggy doors. :lol Edited by barb43, December 30, 2017, 8:02 pm.

Good morning, all! 18 degrees; windchill is 2 degrees. A skiff of snow on top of some icy spots this morning. I turned on our Watch Bear this morning ... He's watching early for Baby New Year. :heh The dogs went out back and came back inside as soon as possible. They went out front with me to get the newspaper and didn't stay out there very long either. :B: The 3 blondies - Ge', Houston, & Leela - are back in the bedroom where it's warm & quiet. One of my goals today is to stay home & stay inside. :wink Y'all have a great day! |

It is doubtful that a cell phone charger could draw so much current to heat up extension cord ends like that. It is more likely a case of high resistance. Are the prongs on the plug free of oxidation? You could brighten them up with a bit of sand paper. Another possibility, the prongs could be bent just enough to make a poor connection. This wouldn't necessarily be visible. Any sign of pitting caused by arcing? If that's the case I wouldn't bother with trying to fix it (it is possible to fix) because I would never feel it was safe enough to use at night. Time for a new, longer, cord? Sweetie doesn't think there's anything seriously wrong with either the charger or the ext. cord. The ext. cord is a little on the old side, but it's been working well. He thinks there was a buildup of heat under the pillows, with the bed being warmer. Anyway, gonna charge my phone before I go to bed and keep stuff off the bed that doesn't really belong there. The sun has come out in the last few minutes and it's really pretty out! We had some sleet with a little snow on top of it, but not enough to stick to the road. Windchill hasn't come up much - it's still setting on 6 degrees. Should be daylight for almost 3 hours yet but not enough time to really raise the temperature. |

Happy New Year's Eve Jeanette, Barb, Cathy, Mel and Scott. :high5 No celebrating at this house, going to bed as usual. I am working a half day tomorrrow. It was 0 out w/ windchills in the -20's. The wind makes it feel worse. We had another skiff of snow last night, it is pretty.........but we are over pretty and snow and now it needs to just go away. On the weather tonight they were saying lows would be -30 to -40 below. :cold Have a good Eve. :grouphug Edited by cricket55, December 31, 2017, 5:58 pm.
