Maybe I'm just being a bit paranoid, but it almost seems to me as if the media personalities that are encouraging these student protests are trying to create an environment for tragedy to strike. Or am I just being :tin ? |

I've been wondering the same thing since I heard this would be happening around the U.S. It's a dumb idea, a dumb thing to do. And, how is this supposed to cut down on school shootings? Now, if the students across the U.S. walked out and it was very apparent that many of them were armed, well that might make statement. :heh What are the adults - supposed adults - who teach those students talking about with them? Those teachers need to be teaching those kids some common sense. Parents should be in the thick of what goes on at school at well. My parents would have sternly forbade me to participate in a walkout, and you can bet they'd have been driving by to see if they spotted me out there. :ohno /rant Good to hear that your mother is doing well overall, Mel. :thumb Pretty afternoon here ... a chill in the air, but lots of sun and into the low 60s. edited to add: No, Mel, I don't think you're being :tin at all! I believe the mainstream media to be troublemakers at best, and just flat out evil at worst. :sigh Edited by barb43, March 14, 2018, 12:44 pm.

Yay! Glad they returned safely. :thumb You'll have to share some of the stories. :nod I attended a memorial service this afternoon for an old soldier who was a dear friend of mine. The funeral home chapel was packed, which was neat. I love a service that is big and emotional - it's a fitting tribute to the one who's passed on to the next life. His wife is taking it pretty hard - she told me she's presently numb (not a bad way to be at present - she'll 'thaw out', and I hope she's surrounded by people who still support her when that happens. :winky ). A couple of neat things they did that surprised me for a memorial service - opened the side door to the parking lot and had a 21-gun salute and played taps. The honor guard then came inside where they unfolded and re-folded the American flag with a lieutenant who presented it to the grieving widow "on behalf of a grateful nation." That was all really neat. Well ... running on to collect rent; go to a house pre-listing appt; get a haircut (I'm starting to look like Cousin It!); put up a sign rider (maybe); and visit my mother before heading home. |

Scott glad everyone made it back safe and sound from Israel. It would be fun to hear their stories. Barb the folding of the American flag and the taps always gets me at funerals. At Dad's funeral they played taps over the loud speaker and the already folded flag was presented to us. Mel loved the pic with there and the spelling bee. :lol Never thought of the students walking out of school in protest of gun safety that way either. But one never knows when the crazies are about. Little buds are popping out on some of the trees. :clap So ready to be done with winter. A movie about apostle Paul comes out on the 23rd, same producers of Risen and War Room. The trailer looks really good. :nod :grouphug |

They all say that they had a good time but at the same time they all say that they were rushed everywhere. This was the Catholic tour so they visited lots of churches, etc. but bypassed places like the Garden Tomb that Protestants venerate. Valley of Megiddo? Yeah, they drove past it without mention. It didn't go over well when they were showing me Mary's Tomb and I said, "The Catholic Church teaches that Mary was taken bodily to heaven. How can she have a tomb?" (Shut up, Scotty) Apparently Israelis are terrible drivers. Bear in mind these are Filipinos saying that and Filipinos come from a land of bad driving so they know! They all were surprised at how hilly the country is. The country is very clean until you get into the West Bank where trash piles line both sides of the road. In the West Bank the bus was pelted with tomatoes. So they're on the bus when it had to stop. This "little IDF girl, about 19" gets on, walks down the aisle and stops in front of DS demanding to see his documents. He was the only one checked. LOL! I told him to get rid of the beard before going there but his passport photo has a beard so he kept it. Honestly, the kid doesn't look anything like a Filipino. He looks like an Arab. When he got home he displayed the Keffiyeh he bought. You know, the head gear like Yassar Arafat wore. "And where do you propose to wear that?" I asked. He also bought a yarmuke so I guess it evens out. Speaking of buying, all of them expressed annoyance at Arab street vendors who would slap bracelets on their arms, put hats on their heads or drop other items in their bags and then demand payment. Again, they're Filipinos so good luck with that trick! :pound Last night I had to sit through 1500+ (!!) vacation pictures. I still haven't seen the movies. |

Actually, that is not as much of a problem as you would think. According to an old church tradition accepted by most Eastern Orthodox and some Roman Catholic Christians, at the end of her Earthly life Mary "fell asleep" and was buried for three days before reviving and being bodily assumed into heaven. Those who hold this belief disagree about whether she was really dead for those three days or merely in a trace like state in preparation for her assumption. The existence of her empty tomb is seen by them as evidence for her assumption. Edited by M. Hawbaker, March 16, 2018, 8:47 am.

I would love to visit the Holy Land someday, but I do not see any likelihood of having the money (or the time) anytime soon. |

I have long found the nonbiblical Catholic traditions and dogmas about Mary and the arguments used to support those teachings to be fascinating though I do not believe in them myself. Edited by M. Hawbaker, March 16, 2018, 10:22 am.
