Good morning! Its in the upper 30s at present. Supposed to be 'barely' above 0 in the morning. :B:

Did any of you see the news reports on the turkey vultures who suffered in the bone-chilling Massachusetts temperatures and their wings were encased in ice?

New England Wildlife Center posted on facebook:
Quote:

The flock of 12 vultures were found hunkered under a bush during the snowstorm last week.
A good samaritan helped some of the birds into a barn where they were able to warm up and recover. MassWildlife took the most critical to a couple of locations - the Cape Wildlife Center and the New England Reptile and Raptor Center. Apparently all have recovered okay and were released back into the wild to rejoin their flock. Wow! That's a great feel-good story for a Monday. :):

edited to add: Hope you enjoy this federal holiday in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. Not a lot of businesses here are closed but government offices are. I'm hoping the bank is open ... I'm heading there to make a deposit next. :winky

See y'all later! :wave

I did not see that story, but I did see the one about the frozen aligators in South Carolina:

Gators survive frozen swamp

The park, which features an alligator preserve, has been open for two years, but this is the first time the water which the alligators call home has frozen over. They were unfazed.

When alligators get cold, they brumate, a period of dormancy similar to hibernation. They slow down their metabolism and their breathing and go into a semi-vegetative state. Right before the surface freezes, they stick their snouts out of the water so they can continue breathing.

Those poor animals being frozen by the ice, glad they are going to be okay. The ice and cold temps have been something else recently.

We are in single digits with wind chills below 0. :cold Had some snow last night and winds are high today with blowing snow. Some schools closed but others did not have school because of Martin Luther King Day.

Mel I loved the free kittens pic. :lol

It is a tich warmer today, the sun is shining brightly. Going to be warm enough on Sunday for rains most of the day. This weather has been something else.

Hi, Carmen! Wasn't too uncomfortable here this afternoon, in the sunshine, even if it was only 23 with a windchill of 13. Had to be because it's such a dry cold. We're expected to set a new low about 4 in the morning. But, should be almost 70 for a high on Saturday! :high5

Probably a 3-dog night around here tonight, if we can all get comfy in/on the bed. I'm gonna start moving that way in a few minutes and see who follows me in there. Y'all sleep tight! :bed

We had about 4 inches of very wet slushy snow this evening. The drive home from work tonight was very slippery.

:cold :snow

:wave Good morning! Colder than the frost on a champagne glass this morning, but lots of beautiful sunshine. We set that new record low temp, but I don't know exactly how low it was.

When I was in the WVU marching band, we had a little ditty we used to sing when it was cold. The "cooler than the frost on a champagne glass" was the first line and the only one that's repeatable in good company. I hadn't thought of that in over 30 years probably, till yesterday morning. :ohno

I'm working from home till the afternoon so I can keep the doggy door closed & not overheat the house. I've got errands to run, late afternoon, but it should be above freezing then, I hope.

Hope you're all having a great Wednesday!

Dodged a bullet. Three inches of snow, if that much, and that appears to be it. They're getting considerably more just a few miles north and west of here.

Had another eye injection today. The treatments are working which makes them more tolerable. One more to go.
