Glad I'm not in those mega-frigid temps! It's been running between 15-30 degrees here, mostly hovering around 30 this week.

I just completed week 1 of winter quarter. I went back to full time status this quarter (probably next quarter as well). I am taking Anatomy & Physiology 1. My toughest class so far. Also Sociology and PE. PE is basically just for the 1 extra credit to bump me up to full time status for my financial aid. A&P is Monday thru Thursday 8-9am lecture and 9-10am lab. I've been going to school early (6:30am) to work out before class. I'm not exactly a morning person, especially when it is dark and below freezing. But, it's good to get the gym time out of the way early. A&P is KILLING me so far. I spend my two hours in class, then come home and read and take notes for HOURS. I hope it gets easier because I am looking for a job. Tuesday I spend six or seven hours outside of class time JUST on A&P. Wednesday I spent two or three hours on Sociology, then another three hours or so on A&P. Today I came home after class and went straight to work on A&P for four hours before I went to Mark's. I'm about to go back to it (no class tomorrow morning). I want to get ahead on my reading and note-taking so hopefully next week will be easier and less stressful.

We pretty much got our wedding/honeymoon planned. We're going to elope to Idaho on June 22 or 23 (though we're kicking around the idea of Spring Break at the end of March). Then, some friends from church have a gorgeous cabin on Loon Lake just back on the WA side of the border that they will let us stay in, so we'll go there for several days before heading home. Then, Mark's brother and sister-in-law will come up from Texas towards the end of July and we'll have a reception, then all of us will head to the beach (Oregon coast) for family time. Mark's brother and I were quite close all throughout high school, I haven't seen him in probably 30 years! It all seems much closer from this side of the holidays.

OK, I guess I can't stall any longer. Time to get back to my studies. :kickcan

Mel, are you working or are most businesses closed? That deep freeze cold you're talking about boggles my mind. I can't even imagine it.
I have the day off today, but it is just my regularly scheduled day off. I don't know of any businesses that are closing because of the cold.

These kinds of temperatures are not really that unusual for January in these parts. The only unusual part is that it has stayed so cold for so many days in a row.

Our current temperature at 8 AM is -8, and the high this afternoon is predicted to get up to 15 before plunging back to sub zero temperatures tonight.

The biggest problem for the next couple of days is the high winds.

I'm just glad that we haven't gotten much in the way or snow and ice so far this year. Cold temperatures I can deal with.

My cousin who is a mail carrier a few towns over said that the discarded Christmas trees that people had put out on the curb for pickup were "blowing down the street like tumbleweeds" when he was making his rounds yesterday.

The local school district did decide to cancel classes today after all due to the dangerous wind chill advisory that is in effect.

Bet that was an interesting sight. :ohno Yes, the windchills can be deadly.

Thankfully a little warmer here today, and through the weekend.

All y'all be careful in this weather. :grouphug

Cathy your wedding/honeymoon plans sound awesome. Bet you get excited with each day that passes. Had to repeat A&P when I went back to school because it had been more than 7 years since I had taken it. I really thought I would not have to study much and that included for tests.....well long story short I kind of bombed the first test. :blush Well I quit doing that and got an A on the second test.

We made it to the upper teens today and it felt so wonderful. People walking around with coats open or not wearing one......did not think it was that warm to go without a coat.

Could just imagine the Christmas trees rolling down the street like tumbleweeds. :laugh

Scott how are things out in the big city of Boston???

Good morning! :wave

6 degrees with a wind chill of -11 this morning. After the last few days, that is almost a heat wave.

Our forecast is now showing that tomorrow should be the last day of extreme cold for a while. By the middle of next week the daytime temperatures are supposed to be back up in the 50s. Even most of the predicted overnight lows for next week are above freezing.

Scott how are things out in the big city of Boston???

Damage in millions of dollars.
Lots of street flooding near the harbor. That's not wave wash. The tide along with storm surge actually rose up above street level! Same all along the coast. I have a friend in Revere, MA that I am very concerned about. He's in a basement apartment only a few hundred yards from the beach. It flooded during the Blizzard of '78 and news reports are saying this storm was worse than that in his area. I've seen pictures of cars frozen in place with seawater up to their windshields. Me? I'm about 15 miles from the coast. Here it was just a very windy storm with lots of snow. We're already dug out. Never lost electric power either.

Good morning, PF'ers!

Glad to hear y'all are doing well, Scott. :thumb Praying for your friend in Revere. I saw some news coverage last evening that showed cars frozen in/snowed in up to almost the tops of the doors. One guy was driving through a flooded street in a mini-van/small suv sort of vehicle. The reporter yelled, "Heh, what are you doing driving in this flood?" He hollered, "Driving for GrubHub!" She cracked up laughing & said well, guess somebody was getting dinner.

Uh-oh . . . a friend's dog had puppies, and Edward and I are both ooh-ing and aah-ing over one particular pup, who looks so much like Houston D. Hound Dog that I said Houston could almost be the daddy, Lol. Our friend is telling me to take that pup - one more is 'the more the merrier'. Ha! We're not ready to have 6 dogs!! :faint

Been a chilly, slow day. Yes, I have wasted most of it. :blush One of my favorite pastors in town posted a list on facebook of things not to do -- like, waste your weekends. :ohno

I'm roasting some turkey for dinner; I did a load of dishes earlier; and I did 2 loads of laundry. And played on the internet ... that was the time-wasting part. :shame
(she kids around, but she really does need to knock it off)

Oh, you ornery boy, Mel! :fish

Well, he would be our "M" dog . . . (little Leela being our "L" dog). Yes, we've named him. :didisaythat We're calling him "Mini-Hou", you know, like the "Mini-Me" of Houston D. Hound Dog.

Here's the puppy's picture:

And here's a current picture of Houston:

And, by the way, even though the city ordinance says 3 dogs are the limit, it also says you can have up to 8 without having to get a breeder's permit, but you do have to agree to have their space inspected annually. Which translates to allowing the Canine Cops to walk through our entire house! :ohno
