Since the previous thread was nearing 900 posts, I decided to start a new one.

Moe Berg, I think. I saw him on one of those long, pinterest boards yesterday but couldn't find this exact photo. His story in wiki is exciting and sad, both.

Quote:

He received a handful of votes in Baseball Hall of Fame voting (four in 1958, and five in 1960). When he was criticized for "wasting" his intellectual talent on the sport he loved, Berg replied, "I'd rather be a ballplayer than a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court".

Berg received many requests to write his memoirs, but turned them down; he almost wrote them in 1960, but he quit after the co-writer assigned to him confused him with Moe Howard of the Three Stooges.

Okay, I just found this too, which is really cool:

That's right, Moe Berg. We're really blowing through this game the past day or so!

:heh I know, surprisingly. I commented on that to Sweetie this evening and he shook his head and shrugged. Occasionally if I don't know somebody, I'll ask him if he has any idea. Occasionally he does, but not too often. And he's soooo not into baseball - his eyes glaze over if I talk baseball. :lol

I had a really good time looking on pinterest and some history sites at WWII and Korean war vets who ended up as movie stars and sports stars after the war so I've got some of those in my head at the moment. I'll post somebody tomorrow.

Another WWII Navy fighter pilot. He is most well-known as a TV game show host.

Aviation navigator who plotted many cross Pacific routes still in use today. Remembered for an entirely different aviation event.

Okay, since he doesn't look like Juan Terry Trippe, the only other person I can guess is Eddie Rickenbacker. -?-

No, you're very cold. 1930s.

edit:
I just discovered that this picture is misidentified on at least 2 web sites as the husband of a very famous woman. Our guy was married, twice, but neither wife was the least bit famous.

Charles Lindbergh?

Not Lindberg.

Two people were involved in what our guy is most remembered for. He was not the principal character.

Is this Harold Gatty?

There were some really brilliant and colorful characters in the Golden Age of Aviation! Been reading short bios on them (and their antics :wink ).

Lt Cmdr Richard E. Byrd?

No, not Byrd. This is a hard one. Hard because any decent clue would give it away immediately. There is enough, though, in the previous clues, including my edit, to find him. You may have to read a few articles.
