He was a Native American medicine man who became a missionary to his people after converting to Catholicism. He is known for reinterpreting traditional native rituals such as the peace pipe to have Christian meanings.

This healthy eater from Chicago lived to be 100 - so he must have been doing something right in his life & restaurant business. In the 1940s, he was the presidential candidate representing a real far out (my opinion) political party. And just so you know, I happened upon a caption to this picture while reading an article about a scandalous celebrity chef.

Yes, it is.

He was the American Vegetarian Party's 1948 presidential candidate. He was determined, however, to be ineligible to run as he was born in England.

Yes. You might think I picked him because I am a trolley buff but, really, his name just popped into my mind.

This woman was an American sculptor. She had a thriving career, here and abroad, at a time when women were barely accepted in the practicing art world.

She was sharing quarters with a male artist, but angered him enough that he kicked her out when she critiqued his anatomical structure of a horse. She was a pro at knowing equine anatomy.

She is probably not a direct family member into the line, but she has ties to a famous old hotel family and through her in-laws to railroad heirs.
