Wish Martha Stewart was My Sister!

That might be why I haven't found him . . . Maybe I'll have the chance to look this evening. Well, I'm looking right now . . . was this the Kalaupapa leper colony in Hawaii? I found a resident's account - sounds atrocious. Now it's a state park. Let me see if I can find this man attached to it somehow. I'm going to guess Father Damien, a Belgian priest. Yes, that is him. :nod While I don't put much stock in the Catholic version of sainthood, Saint Damien is one of my personal heroes for his selfless dedication to the Kalaupapa lepers. When nearly everyone else was ready to just ignore them and let then die, Father Damien fought for them. He was responsible for the building of both hospital and school facilities in the leper colony. And he often personally tended to the leper's wounds. Even after contracting leprosy himself, he fought tirelessly to the day he died to improve the lot of the colony's people. |

I had not heard of the leper colony issues in Hawaii before - that was really interesting reading. For our next contestant, you have your choice: name the gown's designer, or name the actress wearing it. The gown's designer is now deceased, but he was known for dressing first ladies and other important society women, although his brand does have a line of ready-to-wear. The woman is an American actress and singer. She was on Time magazines list of most influential people a few short years ago, but I've never heard of her. :shrug . . . :lol Posted Image |

This designer's clothing is so popular that Laura Bush changed her dress after 3 other women wore the same dress for the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006. It was a beautiful red dress. The actress was on Time's list in 2014. (Thought I'd add a couple clues since no one has taken a guess at this one yet.) |

Wild guess. Jennifer Lawrence wearing Oscar de La Renta? All these actresses and their gowns look alike to me. |

You got the designer of the gown correct -- Oscar de La Renta. . . . I swoon over his gowns. Guess the family is running the business just fine since he passed away a few short years ago. The actress is Amy Adams, who I would not know from any other woman on the planet (not big on keeping up with the celeb crowd, especially not anyone since the turn of the century. :): ). |

Activists have been trying to get the TV show he co-hosts with his wife pulled from the air because their pastor is against gay marriage. |

Chip Gaines? I've never watched the show -- basically never watch HGTV any more, at all. I couldn't find the photo but googled your last clue and the article on buzzfeed trying to force them off the air popped up first. |

Our next man was a US Army Captain during WWII. He served as an intelligence officer, but would have liked to have been a chaplain. He was a Baptist missionary before being commissioned and continued to function as a missionary while stationed in China. He was anti-communist, and was eventually killed in a confrontation with Chinese communists just a few days after the end of WWII, in 1945. His story is long and fascinating. He was well known throughout China. Interesting thing is that in the late 1950s in the U.S., an ultra-conservative, anti-communist advocacy group was named after him. That organization still exists today. Who is this man? Posted Image |

Here's the main photo you'll find of our mystery man. In the photo above, he'd reportedly ridden that pony 60 miles in one day to accomplish some mission. Posted Image |

I knew who it was at this point, "killed in a confrontation with Chinese communists just a few days after the end of WWII, in 1945. " This is John Birch. I've read a lot of Birch Society books, notably "Teddy Bare" about Ted Kennedy and the Chappaquiddick incident. Conspiracy garbage at its best. Pure trash. |
