For 2016, I'm planing on reading through the entire Bible in one year. If anyone would like to join me, I will be using the One Year Online Bible plan found at this link: http://oneyearbibleonline.com/january-oyb/?version=51&startmmdd=0101 Each day's reading includes an Old Testament passage, a New Testament passage, and brief passages from the books of Psalms and Proverbs. |

Interesting about the 3 sections of 14 generations in Matthew. How many generations has it been since the crucifixion Of Jesus??? |

It has been about 2000 years since Jesus' first coming. The Old Testament defines a generation as being about 40 years. 2000 divided by 40 = 50. So, we are in the 50th generation (approximately) since the crucifixion. Edited by M. Hawbaker, January 2, 2016, 2:44 pm.

I noticed that the reading listed above for tomorrow (January 3) has an error. The Old Testament reading should be Genesis 5:1-7:24. That's what I get for copy/pasting the list without proofreading it. :doh |

I can't help noticing that in the readings for first 3 days there are some interesting parallels between the Old Testament selections and the new Testament selections. Jan 1: OT tells of the original Creation - NT tells of the birth of Christ (the start of the new Creation). Jan 2: OT tells of mankind's exile from paradise and the first promise of the Savior - NT tells of the young Savior's exile to Egypt and eventual return to his people. Jan 3: OT tells of mankind's decent into total wickedness and the Great Flood of Noah's day (which 1 Peter uses as a symbol of baptism- See 1Peter 3:18-22) - NT tells of the Savior's baptism and his subsequent victory over temptation. Today's reading includes the account of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. I find it interesting that when Lot tried to prevent the perverted men of the city from assaulting his guests, their immediate response was to accuse him of judging them and then attack him: “Get out of our way,” they replied. “This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” (Gen.19:9 NIV) Some things never change. Edited by M. Hawbaker, January 8, 2016, 12:24 pm.

I had to do some catchup on my readings. Lot offered his daughters to the mob outside his house and they could do what they wanted with them.....his own daughters. Then later the daughters got Lot drunk and got PG from him. Some things I just do not remember reading about before. Love the Beatitudes. When we went to Israel the tour stopped on the mount where they were taught. So beautiful. There were alot of mustards plants about......even with faith as small as a mustard seed.......Jesus wanting the listeners to have faith in Him and what He was teaching. Just thought that was neat. The Old Testament portion of the reading plan has now reached one of my personal favorite Bible stories, the tale of Joseph's experiences in Egypt. |

Today's Psalm reading begins with the verse (Psalm 22:1) that Jesus quoted while he was on the cross. |
