Islamic prayers to be held at the Vatican

For the first time in history, Islamic prayers and readings from the Quran will be heard at the Vatican on Sunday, in a move by Pope Francis to usher in peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Holy See officials on Friday said the evening prayers would be a “pause in politics” and had no political aim other than to rekindle the desire for Israeli-Palestinian peace at the political and popular level, according to the Associated Press.

You're right about that, suzugos!

I wonder what Catholics in this country think of the Pope doing that?

I cannot speak for Catholics, but one brother yesterday said the Vatican is trying to broker some peace deal between the Arab and Israeli sides. I don't expect the effort to be successful, but it rings like past teachings about the end times Pope and his seven year covenant with Israel.

I don't endorse headline exegesis, but it does seem like our Lord's up-call for His own is truly at hand.

It has been long held among many western prophecy teachers that the Antichrist will in fact be the last Catholic Pope. That opinion gained currency among the Reformers and is still held by many evangelicals today. I thought surely most who contribute here have heard that teaching.

I'm not saying that the current Pope is the last, and I don't consider Archbishop Malachy's alleged prediction a real prophecy. Personally, I expect an Islamic antichrist or one who pretends to be Islamic. Because Daniel 9:27 says he makes the covenant with "many", it's not only with Israel but with Israel's neighbors. I think it unlikely a leader who is not accepted by Islam can broker a peace deal that will stick for three and one half years.

But in this day we see so many streams flowing together that it seems a pattern is developing. With Islam rising so rapidly in southern Europe, its not beyond thought that a Muslim world leader could yet come from Italy. Although for me ethnic considerations cause me to look at old Constantinople, (Istanbul) which was the last Capitol of the Roman Empire, And that most eastern part of Greece has been in Turkish Islamic hands since 1453. Not to mention that Constantinople is a city situated on seven hills with a natural sea port being at the intersection of major trade routes.
